First time writing (doomed) Bentycutio and I'd say the WIP is coming along alright :3

For context: At the start of their relationship, the three of them agreed to do all they could to live on should one of them die, and they buried personal items beneath an old sycamore— and next to an amaranth seed—for the last one remaining to dig up and remember the others by. This snippet starts with Mercutio's POV then cuts to Benvolio's

TW: Major Character Death x2, implied suicidal ideation

He was dying now. By Tybalt’s hand, in Benvolio’s arms. What more could he want?

Oh, how he wanted so much.

He wanted to spend one more “tiresome” night beside Benvolio’s study, soft eyes fixed on how Benvolio smiled that subtle, genuine beam of his while he poured over his passions.

He wanted to have one last spar with Tybalt, to bask in the man’s graceful, artful movement that he was free to do when every swing did not draw red.

All the world’s a stage, and here he was, taking his final bow in the wings.

And so he forced himself to leave Mercutio and traverse the square on shaking legs, for Tybalt would meet the same fate should the Prince-

Please, not him, too.

He knew it from the glossy shine at the tip of Romeo's quivering blade. He knew it from the pool of red indistinguishable from the fabric it drenched.

He barely registered his own voice as he gripped Romeo's shoulders, practically shoving him down the street lest his cousin take Tybalt's place in the gallows. The city had seen enough death that day, and Benvolio refused to wrench another farewell from the depths of his heart after the one that was to come.

He rushed to the lying figure—whose chest sporadically rose and fell in shallow breaths—already knowing whose face he would see.

"Your cousin is a more apt swordsman than I'd thought," Tybalt remarked, attempting a strained smile.

Benvolio couldn't bring himself to return it, instead choking out, "Why? Did you attempt to parry at all? Had you forgotten our vow the instant your blade slashed Mercutio's skin?" 

Rather than respond, Tybalt surged up to unsheathe Benvolio's rapier, groaning as he summoned the strength to hurl the blade to the foot of his page, who had what he could only assume to be Tybalt's own rapier already in his hands.

Oh God, he had planned this, hadn’t he? Though he doubted Tybalt expected it to transpire quite like this, he had planned this in some form, for some time now. 

"Well, you mustn't forget it yourself, bastard," Tybalt spat, words riding a shallow breath and shot at Benvolio. "That amaranth must be in bloom by now, and I know why you had chosen to bury a blade. Rather than metal, bring that torn doll to your chest and, I beg of you, remember me that way. Drink Mercutio’s wine as you age with it, not to an early grave of your own. 

"You always keep your word, don't you?"

thinking about modern domestic bentycutio....thinking about them liviing together...tybalt waking up with Mercutio draped over him in the mornings...Mercutoo and Tybalt waking up on Saturdays to find Benvolio sat on the counter reading until the oven timer goes off because he decided to wake up at 5 and use tha baking supplies in the house to make muffins..thinking about them putting stupid annotations in the recipe book like "+1 bottle of wine to keep Mercutio distracted so you can mix batter"..thinking about them decorating for holidays and realizing they own way to many decorations..thinking about them running to the store at 6pm because they forgot to grab bread...thinking about them..

Bentycutio for the ask game >:3

It's not really my favourite ship (simply because I love Tycutio and Bentine) BUT I DO SHIP IT

I ship it because one day I was looking for Tycutio smut to read and then I found this fic and BOOM I was magically turned into a Bentycutio shipper.

My favourite thing about it is how endlessly versatile it is relationship dynamic-wise (who is with who — are they a throuple? Is it a one person has two hands situation?, how do they get together, how do they feel about the other, etc.) and how fun it is to explore all three of their personalities and how the relationship affects them (for the better.... Or the worse >:3).

Idk if my opinions about this ship are unpopular but I do have some opinions!! For a start, I like them best as a throuple. It starts with Mercutio seeing both Benvolio and Tybalt, but then Ben and Tybs also catch feelings for each other. I imagine that they're all very soft and tender with each other (where's that one Hozier lyric... "I need to be youthfully felt, 'cause god I never felt young"). All three of them are messed up in their own little ways but they help each other cope and also kind of see their love as a rebellious act in a town full of violence.

Also in the context of Bentycutio, I like to see Ben as sex positive ace. Idk he just gives those vibes to me.
