After a half lifetime of writer's block, im back! (Hopefully)
@topgundrabble came up with this little nice challenge and oh, im gonna grab the chance to remember how to write!

Ron remembered the feeling. Goose voice, his words.
"Never enough. Never good enough. You'll never be a pilot."
And he believed him, what else was he supposed to do? That was his RIO, he was supposed to always trust him, rule number one, or something along the lines.
Maybe he should just give it up, maybe it wasn't his place.
"Ron?"
He looked up, stared straight at Tom's face. It was like his face gave everything away already because next thing he knew, tom was walking up to him, grabbed his face in hands amd kissed him like the world was ending, amd maybe it was.
"Maybe you're not meant to be his pilot. Fly with me."
So, since show Marleau and Hunter are older than the book versions, how about them being rookies together.
Not with the rivalry of Ilya and Shane, instead becoming instantly friends, sticking together like they're glued to each other, laughing at inside jokes that make no sense to the rest ofnthe world but to them.
Rooming together during away games, Cliff dragging rookie Scott to family dinners and being like "yep, I acquired a new brother. He's got a different surname and parents, but they're not around anymore and he could use a new set of family figures! Look at him, he's perfect! Come, mama made homemade pasta, not the kind from the supermarket, you'll love it!"
Them falling a little apart when drafted to different teams, finding different people (both Carter amd Ilya), loving their new people and teams. But that wont chamge the fact scott spent years going on trips with his big, extended family, and they still call him, and watch his games, and he remembers birthdays, and one of the older sisters even had him be the godfather to her second child.
So when he meets Kip his brain is one part "keep it secret, keep it safe", the other is "get on the phone and call Cliff and scream at him that you found the most beautiful boy ever, Scott."
But also, they're not really brothers, so it's okay, they were each other first kiss and first time. They were too scared of ruining everything, and scott had just got himself a brand new family who likes him, he wasnt gonna ruin that.
(WHOOHOO!! first 800 words that make somewhat sense in the past too many months of block! And of course I had to hurt the baby, mh? Oh, Marly, It will not be the last time, baby.)
A little introspective Haycliff post punch.
Cliff is not exactly the most reliable narrator when it comes to his own thoughts when he's hurt, on a clear mind he would take back everything he dared thinking. But he's hurt in that moment and his pretty brain took the roller coaster down the blame and "everyone must hate me now" path. His boyfriend should go and kiss him better.
His face hurt.
It wasnât exactly how Cliff Marleau had expected the day to go, if he had to be honest with himself.
Yes, the game was expected, of fucking course.
Yes, being so close to winning, yet not comfortably enough was expected too, they were playing the Metros after all.
Yeâ No, Shane Hollander looking the wrong direction was not in his plans. Who the actual fuck looks back while chasing the puck at that speed? He couldnât have moved even if he wanted, and he did want to, he tried. Heâ
His face fucking hurt, and maybe there was something broken. He almost hoped something was broken (but no, it would hurt worse if it was the case, he knew it, from experience). If something was broken, and it wasnât, but if it was Roz maybe would look at him the right way, not like he just pancaked the Metrosâ captain. Which was what happened, but not because he wanted to. Said captain decided to look away and crashed into him wrong.
What crashed just fine, though, barely 15 seconds later, was Pikeâs fist. And the betrayed look Roz never stop giving him. But the fist first. That made him feel like he was about to black out right there, fall back and just lay there andâ Oh God, Pike had to hate him so much now, right? Of course he did, he pancaked his captain and best friend, he wouldâve been just as pissed is someone did that to Roz. He wouldâve dropped gloves and punched the fucker who did it.
Except, maybe, just maybe, he wouldnât have really punched Pike, if it was the case, because he had promised, quiet and sweet and a bit half asleep too, to never raise a hand on the one and only he actually loved. Not even during a game. It wouldnât be fair, it wouldnât be right. No one in the right mind would ever, willingly, hit the person they loved, right?
So⌠Maybe he didnât love him. Maybe not enough. Even though he told him just hours before the game, and Cliff believed him. Maybe he had been foolish, and a bit childish, believing that someone could actually mean it andâ
Oh, his face really fucking hurt.
He wouldnât complain, or whine, not aloud, not where everyone could still hear him. Heâd wait until he was in his room in the hotel, when he would stick his face under cold water or perhaps grab an ice pack and hope that he would not wake up with a face double sized and purple. Highly possible, both options, actually. He deserved it, he pancakedâ Okay, maybe he had to stop thinking of that hit this way, it was far from professional, and far from nice.
His boyfriend trying to break his jaw wasnât much nice either. But it was⌠Not alright, no, he knew that much, just⌠a tiny, little bit alright, yeah? People get angry when those they love are hurt. And angry people tend to swing their hands around. And swinging hands sometimes collided with other people standing to close. Yeah, that was it. An accident. Hayds would never want to hurt him. He was angry, and swinging, and he had too close to his swing range, and too slow to duck.
Yeah, it made a lot more sense, put it that way.
Yeah, tomorrow heâll go apologize. And then he will text Hayden and apologize to him too, for hurting his captain. He would not apologize back, because he deserved it, but that would be fine.
He curled up on the bed, sheets stiff and cold, an ice pack carefully wrapped in a towel pressed over his face, knees drawn to his chest as if he could will his too big body to become smaller and take less space. He would go see Hollander the next day, perhaps. Apologize.
What for? Not being able to step away when he got distracted? Yes, exactly that.he pancaked him on the ice, so it was his job to go and apologize. Hopefully he wouldnât try to swing him too, maybe he will take pity of his purple, double sized face.

Just the most self indulgent fic idea, cause thats fics are, after all. (Bear with my english, if it feels/reads off, my brain isnt exactly englishing well this week, so I apologize)
Omegaverse.
Everyone knows and claims that omega dont become pro players, and surely not alternate captains, they stay at home, or in the stands, cheering for their alpha, get shown off like trophies, the work.
Except hes not really passing as an omega, built like a tank, hitting like one too, taller than his own very much alpha captain. So yeah, no one in the right mind would think Cliff Marleau was an omega, and he would die before admitting it.
If it came out he would lose everything, his team, his friends, hockey. Every fucking thing he worked so hard for.
Until, during a game, or perhaps a charity event/dinner, the scent blockers fails, suppressants fail, everything fails so absurdly spectacularly he tries to hide away in a bathroom, away from other players, even away from Ilya.
Enter the one Alpha who punched him on the face 2 weeks ago. Hayden Pike.
Well, first proper writing in months... let's just try to get back in shape. (Let's try not to be too mean with faves... oh no, too late for that?)
Reversed Marlow/Hollander hit, kinda already established Hollanov, implied Rozanov/marlow too. (Also, I really like Marly... hes gonna have a hard life with me, I fear...)
Ilya had known, in all his years playing hockey, what fear feels like when he sees an injury, when a player goes down after a hit and doesn't immediately bounce back up, which was, usually, what Marlow always did, included that memorable time during practice when Ilya himself collided with him in a mess of skates and gloves amd limbs, resulting in two cracked ribs that Marlow only complained about a game against the Admirals after, the evening after the actual injury.
So, seeing him sprawled on the ice like that, his head slightly turned, not getting back up-- ilya tlrealized, suddenly, that he didn't truly know fear. Nor he ever considered the person he proudly called his best friend not to get back up after a hit from the one person Ilya found himself, over the span of too many years and too many sexual encounters, fall in love with.
// it could've been Hollander. // a small, almost fearful voice whispered in his mind. // it could've been his Shane laying there in the ice. Not moving. Eyes closed. Not breat-- //

No, that wasn't-- that wasn't right. That wasn't true. It was just that Marlow hadn't moved yet, and they were all being so careful.
// what would you have done, if it was Hollander? // that small voice asked.
Ilya forced himself to blink, to breath, to skate a few strides closer.
It wasn't Shane, and the small voice liked to play on fears and what ifs and on that small, soft comfort that the man he loved was fine.
He sometimes hated that voice that drowned everything but his thoughts on Shane Hollander, because the one on the ice was the one person who let him stay at his apartment when he first arrived. Who helped him and corrected him and stopped him from making a fool of himself by insulting a reporter or two because english was weird.
He was the one always there, in between, he was warm and solid and with a soft voice when he called him Roz, he learned fast, just like Shane, loved hard and sweet and soft amd leaned into touches, melting into it.
And now-- now he wasn't moving as they rolled him out of the rink and Ilya couldn't tear his eyes away, even as traitorous thoughts kept saying "it could've been Shane. Be glad ot wasnt him."
Glad. How could he, when his teammate, one of the people closer to him, hadn't moved in minutes?
"'Lya!!"
Air. Oxygen. Fresh, blessed oxygen filling his lungs once more.
"Hiii!! You look... mmmh.."
He hesitated as Ilya walked closer, scrunched up his nose, furrowed the brow searching for whatever word was slipping through that concussed haze.
"... Kinda glowing and double and foggy."
Marlow frowned, unhappy with how weird Rozanov was currently looking.
"Well, you don't look too good yourself, Marly."
"Oh... not pretty?"
He groaned, unhappily, and for the first time since the collision, Ilya sighed and let a small smile cross his face.
Alright. He would be alright.
"Hollander feels guilty."
"Why...?"
"He knocked you out. Brutally."
"Naah... I turned. Tripped and turned-- no, turned and tripped and he was there and--"
He took a breath. Everything was supposed to hurt, he couldn't feel it, not through the haze of medications, but the knowledge of pain was there.
"Accident. That just accident. Hockey. Dont be mad."

The problem was, ilya couldn't be mad at Shane, ilya knew ot was a freak accident and it could've been the other way around and-- and he would've been pissed at Marlow if it was like that, so why the fuck couldn't he be mad at Hollander? He should've.
"No mad, Ilya..."
He asked again, cool fingers brushing his hand when he finally managed to figure out how to make his system convince his not injured arm to move and reach out.
"Okay. Okay, not mad."
He smiled, dazed from way too many medications in his system and slipped in a quiet sleep.
Not me thinking i could, perhaps, launch myself out of the worst writer's block ever by trying to scribble out a small canon divergence where its Marlow who gets knocked around by Shane, by accident (the baby would never willingly knock someone out like that, yeah?)

For you, you get a little part of the hangster academy era fic where Jake takes Bradley home for the holidays to meet his parents.
A little quick info so it makes sense, Chris Seresin is the OC of @oh-surprise-its-me biologically Chris is Jakeâs uncle who adopts him after Chrisâs sister gives birth to Jake. Chris is in a relationship with both Ron and Tom. And the three of them are Jakeâs dads. Chris is dad, Ron is papa, and Tom is Tata (polish for dad).
âB, come on. Theyâre not that terrifyingâ Jake huffs walking back to his boyfriend to tug him fully in to the kitchen.
âI donât know what your concept of terrifying is but mine is finding two three star admirals in the kitchen of my boyfriends house when he takes me home for Christmas â Bradleyâs voice cracks as he waves in his hand in the direction of the older three men.
âWell to me theyâre not three star admirals. Thatâs just papa with dad sitting on his lap as Tata sips his morning coffee.â Jake directs Bradley on to a stool at the island in the center of the kitchen. âTata is only scary when heâs at work and someone does something stupid. Between the three of them you should be more scared of dad. Heâs the one who grew up in Texas along with Uncle David. Theyâre the ones who always threaten to feed my dates to the pigs on the neighbors farm if they make me cry.â Jake pauses in his making of their coffees to shoot his dadâs a look, ânow, papa and Tata are lame and just say people accidentally fall off carriers all the time. Like come on, itâs 200? . Itâs time to find a new threat. Grandpa threatened them with that same line when they started dating dadâ
Omega Sli/Alpha Mav with some friendship arch between Sli and Ice.
Omegas in the Navy or any military service are rare, although there have been a slight improvement over the years. Slider is one of the first omegas that were enlisted after the ban on omegas in military service was lifted in the late 70s, and actually the first person to join TOPGUN as an omega. Slider is pretty passable as beta or even alpha, and only a couple of people who are close to him (his mom, his nana, his little brother Danny, and Ice, who he met in Annapolis) know his second gender. He never shows his ID to anyone and he mostly keeps it to himself when it comes to the discussion of sex and romantic relationships. Mav thinks itâs weird, a guy like Slider would brag about his love life non-stop. Instead he just sits there, laughing uncomfortably until Ice tells them to fucking knock it off.
(Ice has always been like that. Great friend and a great alpha. So protective of Slider. Bonus point if they used to have crush on each other before they realized they were better off being friends. Or I can make Ice a beta andâŚsort of create a bizarre love triangle. Which do you prefer?)
One day Mav accidentally bangs Sliderâs head pretty hard when they are playing beach volleyball. Nose bleed, maybe sone concussion. Hell, he was kinda looking dazed even before the game started. Still not so amicable, he is sort of âdaredâ to take him to the infirmary. But Ice somehow insists he canât and he will instead take care of the RIO, much to Mavâs confusion.
Turns out, Slider was having some pre-heat sickness (similar to PMS) and couldnât concentrate on the game at all. Ice takes care of his wound in the locker room ââAre you taking your suppressants?â âAny other symptoms? Just usuals?â âDo you feel comfortable going back? Do you wanna just stay home for the day?ââa row of muffled questions to which Slider answers with either a quick âyeahâ and a few seconds of silence. Mav stumbles upon their conversation, worried and wanted to make sure the taller man was okay. But holy God, is he eavesdropping and accidentally discovering the secret.
Eventually Ice goes out to get some wet towels and bumps into Mav, who is standing just outside the room and awkwardly trying to hide somewhere. Jesus the fury in his eyes. Heâs sure heâs gonna get killed on sight. But Ice is surprisingly calm, despite his clenched fists and stiff shoulders. Slider, though, just throws fits as soon as he sees Mav. He tries to push him away, grabs him on the collar of his shirt as he growls.
âGet lost,â Slider gnarls as Ice worriedly tries to pull him away from the brunette. âAnd if you canât fucking keep the secret? Iâm gonna fucking kill your ass. Is that clear?â
And Maverick can only nod.
Alternatively: Omegaverse AU where omega Sli and alpha Mav slowly builds their relationship. Protective Ice. Hurt Sli. Mav trying to support him as best as he can.
As a lover of that omega Ronnie idea (and has quite some works in the making, damn my slowness), YES! Give him both his pilot and the little shit Alpha Mav! (Or two Alphas. I'm sure they would love love love to take care of their not so small and innocent omega together, once Ice realizes Mav is not too bad and won't hurt him!)
Owww, poor Ron got hit during the game because he's not feeling well. He's not one to whine about being hurt, he's a RIO, he got hurt in flights before, sure a ball to his face is ouch, but-- but he's in pre-heat. And his pilot is there. He's allowed to whine a little, until they find mav accidentally eavesdropping.

Maverick doesnât know how to act in such a situation. Heâs never had male omegas as friends and many of his encounters with the other end of the minority identities are solely sexual and/or romantic. Maverick doesnât know what he is to Slider, or what he wants to be to Slider and vice versa. A friend? A coworker? Something else completely?
Maverick doesnât know. The only thing heâs sure is that there is blood stain on Sliderâs upper lip. He looks scared. Frightened, even.

I imagine Mav to be a clueless alpha whoâs trying to be as supportive as he can for Slider, who he definitely isnât crushing on hard n fast. Ice is super protective of Slider, though. And he definitely will punch Mav in the face at some point. I wanna see how they work on their individual differences and struggles. Also Slimav. Slider being vulnerable. Slider being hurt. Everybody being hurt and overthinking. Fuck yeah brotha, bring it on.
Ron's used to have only tom to care for him. It's bad enough he's an omega in the fucking navy, he doesn't need that short alpha to fuss fakely over him out of... misplaced guilt. He knows mav is acting like that cause he can smell he's in heat, or pre heat. Whatever.
And whenever Ron gets scared he withdraw in himself hard enpugh that sometimes even Tom struggle to get past that.
Ron reverts to speak polish, and only polish in those moments, and hell, mav can understand shit.
Oh ,I absolutely love to whump him so much!! Both physically and psychologically (having him go overwhelmed by people and sounds is fun, mostly cause I use experience, as someone who kinda ran out of a market before finishing grocery shopping cause I couldn't deal with it much longer, and had to do a second grocery run to finish it).
I have a very nice and bad idea called Hold my hand. Which is basically one where ice is not the one getting sick but its ronnie. 2 different versions of the idea, one is with tom and chris, another is a little slicemav idea, with mav finding out only after Ron relapsed, never knew of the first time cause back then they weren't together.
Ice is so very protective of his omega (and ron being like one year younger, they'd never guess it! Or one with ronnie being same age as mav but looks and act older), he needs his baby to be safe!!
(Oh, Ron still being Jake's papa, cause I love love Papa Ron, he would so so soft!!)
