This book is one of my Christmas gifts, and definitely the wittiest book I've read in the last two years (I still think Organic Chem Lab Survival Manual by Zubrick tops my list of witty books.) It essentially discusses the various key types of Stupid which are prevalent in human society, the history of the many forms of Stupid and how one might observe the Stupid as it currently exists. The first type of stupid discussed in chapter one is the modern individual, and the belief in our inherent worth and how that came to be, and the idea of art as a means of objectively observing the paradigm of the time it was produced. Ergo, by observing television shows, adverts, music and other mediums, we can observe the social construct. Razer states that art is not, as it has been claimed by some, to be a moving factor in the evolution of societal change, but instead purely an observation by the artist of their surroundings in the same way one might take a photo. It contains the subjective bias of the artist themselves but still encapsulates the essence of the times, as even the artist is affected by the paradigm of that era. E.g; one could say that the presence of social justice in music is shaping society and causing the rise of social justice, where as the music of today is merely a snapshot of the paradigm we are all experiencing. Anyhow the book gives the reader a lot to think about, the second chapter is on denialism in it's many wonderful forms. I sincerely hope these two don't have a tumblr and decide to correct me on all of this because I happen to know they're very active on twitter.
