Hahahaha, Jin Ling, what do you think you are you doing there being every millennial's 13 year old self on page?
On more of him in general though, I know many say they see Jiang Cheng in him, but to me at least, I feel as if he is sharing a similar journey to Lan Wangji. They both are made to face that what they always were told and followed, weren't as clear and precise out in the real world. And what is said to you, is not always the truth and there are still ways to distort the truth to make yourself unsure of your own moral compass.
His young anger begins to soften into something more gentle as we see him in the story. And we don't see that happen with Jiang Cheng that is with Lan Wangji. And I think Jin Ling wants to be someone who is sure of themselves and their tears without worrying of what others think of his choices anymore. As long as he is sure of his own ways, that's what he needs, and the full support of others that are really willing to teach him, without cruelty. Kindness is as much a thing he craves for as it was with Lan Wangji.
He has so much potential if people were to see past that hard exterior.
