February 2026
And I’d like to take a minute, just sit right there. I’ll tell you how I became the Footboy of a gathering called AUNT!
See what I did there? I’m so creative 😂 shoutout to Uncle Phil, he was the man. Gotta admire the man for his appreciation of classical music and pillowy mounds of mashed po-Tay-toes.
Ok, onto the point of this post lol. I had the pleasure and the opportunity to take part in a gathering called AUNT. While I’ve been involved in the community for a few years and have had some private one-on-one sessions with friends, I have never done anything like this before. Word of mouth and a desire to find something like this from my mental health work inspired me to look into some options. AUNT instantly became of interest.
I officially joined in January and registered. Although it was a bit last minute, I was still met with a lot of kindness and felt so welcome from people I didn’t even know. But I instantly felt comfortable and began connecting with folks online. It felt like ages I had to wait to actually attend, but it was worth it.
I ended up getting to the hotel on Thursday, a day earlier than originally planned because Mother Nature wanted to make my life miserable. And one of the first things I noticed was how everyone took me in so fast and made sure to include me. As the weekend went on, I grew more comfortable and really tried my best to put myself out there more. I wanted to make the best of this opportunity and there was no better chance to do it than here.
One of the first people I got to connect with and chat with was @theminipotat. We had been talking a couple months prior to the event, and she was a huge reason why I wanted to attend the event. I felt a connection with her that I hadn’t felt with anyone else in a long time, and although I wish I got to spend more time with her, she made the whole weekend even better for me. More on that later.
I was thankful to not be the only newbie attending and I felt that we had a great group of people there who were in a similar position that I was in. I hope I get to keep in touch with many of these people, and I’m very thankful that we all got to experience something that may seem overwhelming together and do the thing. I also learned that we were the biggest class of Newbies up to that point. So hey, I’ll take that feather in the cap.
One thing that got me on an emotional level was the jam session. I learned that this year was going to be a rather difficult one for some because a significant member of the community prior to my involvement had passed away, and this was the first year without him there. Emotions were high, and although I didn’t know the guy personally, I empathized with those who were hurt and as someone who has lost a few family members and friends last year, I understand the feeling. At one point, I broke down crying in my hotel room thinking about those losses and thinking about how the close connections I made that weekend had filled a void in my life that had been building for years. But it was part of the healing process, and I am overall grateful I was apart of it all. Knowing that I have people who will always be there for me will be something I will never forget.
Ok, before this post gets too long, now I want to address some people individually and give some honorable mentions. They deserve the praise for taking me in and for being so patient with my goofy ass.
@theminipotat: I cannot express enough how grateful I am for you and everything you have done for me. You have been such a sweet, kind, caring, funny, supportive person to me and everything I told you before we parted ways that weekend I meant from the heart. Getting to know you was such a blast. I won’t ever forget Jeffrey, witnessing his rise to stardom was awesome. And of course, I loved our play session together. I loved being your footboy, and I hope and pray that we can make it happen again someday. That hairbrush I used won’t forget those soles either 🤭. I know things have been difficult and I relate to those battles against scary demons, but you always have me as a shoulder to lean or cry on. I love ya, Lux, thank you for everything 💜💜
@happydayz101: Fellow newbie! I know we hadn’t known each other as long prior to the event, but I knew you were somebody I felt comfortable connecting with and sharing such an important part of myself with. I loved hanging out with you by the pool and playing Uno and Jenga with you with the fellow newbies! I’m also very grateful for allowing me the opportunity to have some play with you and your adorable feetsies. I know you were aware of my eagerness to play, and the fact you felt comfortable enough with me to play means so much. I hope we stay connected too, and thank you for being a lovely person! 💜
@knotyoursoftkore: I really owe you a big hug and lots of foot rubs next time I see you for everything you’ve done to help me through my first gathering. From the moment we met, you have been such a great support system for myself and the rest of the newbies! I appreciate all your efforts to make this the best first event possible for us, and it’s meant so much to me that you have been such a great presence and friend from the beginning. If it wasn’t for you and the others, I don’t know if I would’ve felt like I do now. I’m confident our paths will cross again in the future, and I can’t wait to get to know you more. Love ya! 💜
Some other honorable mentions I’d love to include here are @awkweirdtato, @quietlee99, @sugarsoakertkl, @socialbutterfy, and @shy-ticklish-lee. Thank you all for being so kind and welcoming to me and for making the experience that much better for me! I will probably add more to this list as I discover more of my friends on here, but this will do for now!
So that’s my story. If you made it all the way down here, thank you for your time and for reading. I hope I get to attend AUNT again next year, and I hope it’s even better the second time around!
…Anyways, leave a message.
