Hi! If it's okay to ask for some writer/writing advice, I'd like to ask how people get their fics beta-read 🫠 This is gonna sound like a pity party, but I have no online friends or writer friends or fandom friends to turn to in terms of checking/reading/editing my fics. I don't say this so y'all would feel bad, because I keep it that way to protect my privacy and yada yada, but I've always wondered how people find betas! I was in journalism, and was an editor, so I had my experience in critiquing/correcting/editing; but I wonder what's it like for betas and for those being beta-ed. Idk, maybe I'd try it, too. Thanks for your time, Steph! Lots of love!
Hi Nonny *HUGS*!!!!!
NONNY!!! This is not a pity party ask at all!!!! LOL have you visited my blog?? All I do is whine LOL LOL!!!! Seriously though, as far as I know some people do offer beta services for a small commission fee or for fandom friends and such. I personally don't really know how to get one unless some people are offering free betaing and I see their posts and reblog them. I am one of those people who don't get betaed because I self-edit too much anyway so I would drive someone nuts, LOL. And I myself have considered offering beta services but I don't have a lot of free time outside of my day job and this blog, and when I do have free time it's either to work out, game, or do my artwork.
That said, there's nothing wrong with not having a beta at all, but the kindness of strangers doesn't go unappreciated here! So if anyone has some free time and want to offer som betaing or some tips for Nonny, please let us know!!
And Nonny, when you get your story done or posted, let us know!! I'd love to promote you :)
I don't know how to start this, but it's really my first time trying to find people to read my stories and get feedback on it, since I started writing I always wanted one, because I like the idea of being able to understand another person's point of view about writing.
Lately I'm having a hard time proofreading the stories myself because I proofread them in my original language (Spanish) and then translate them into English (something that takes a lot of work and makes me wonder if the story is translating minimally to what I want to express after all) plus I'm wanting to write a lot more than a thousand words and develop my ideas a bit more now that I have free time before I start my classes. In the end it gets a bit confusing not having someone who can guide me in the translation and at the same time start to get more involved in the plot of my characters.
I understand superficially how Beta's work, however, since I am about to come into contact with this type of reader for the first time, I would like you to bear with me if you plan to interact with this post to find out more about what I wrote.
For now I'm focused on writing stories about Formula 1, you don't need to understand much about this sport if you are not a fan since I didn't touch too technical details during the stories. Anyway, it would add a lot of points to it if you are a fan. :)
Hello, Fandom Trumps Hate creators and prospective bidders! We are very excited for this year's auction! While we're busy building bidding sheets and forms and generating offer posts, we took some time out to put together an overview of our fan labor offers. Here are some quick numbers to give you an idea of what kind of fan labor offerings will be available this year:
Betaing - 52
Culture Picking - 27
Sensitivity Reading - 20
Specialist Expertise - 22
Translation - 8
We will be posting some more details about each category, so stay tuned. Who knows, maybe you will find a perfect beta or translator to help you with your own fannish endeavors through FTH this year!
Have you used a beta before? Or sought out specialist info? Have you benefited from a previous fan labor auction? If so, we would love to hear from you! Feel free to reblog with comments about your stories so that those who are new to fan labor can get an idea of what it's like to work with a fan laborer. We'd love to hear from fan laborers as well - everyone is welcome!
mmm... ok. so! super grateful for the help i received on my prev post! because of it i was able to buy food and pay my storage bill for the month!
this being said, i still do need help. it is very likely that i will be moving into a trailer at my mom's awhile into april and will therefore not have to pay rent here anymore! that being said... i still have to pay april rent :( and i still havent found accessible work that i can safely do with my chronic illness either.
so! i need to raise $700 before march 31st (today is 3/11/22)! and then another $60 for my phone bill and $200 for groceries. so! rounding up, goal is $960! would appreciate any help that i can get on this!
