78 Impossible Marriage by Beth Henley dir Eric Wegener for Strawdog Theatre. I had such a wonderful time doing this show. This was the first show I got just by doing a reading, never had to audition. I think that may be the only show I got without an audition. I played Jonsey Whitman, husband to Floral, an incredibly handsome man who witnessed his father drown when a child, and has been impotent his entire life, which somehow doesn’t seem to bother him nor does the fact that his wife is 8.5 months pregnant. The events of the play take place in Savannah, GA at the wedding of Pandora Kingsley, younger sister to Floral, to Edvard Lunt, a much older man, who has left his family behind to marry Pandora. They are represented by Edvard’s son Sidney, who has come armed and ready to do something drastic. All of this is overseen by Pandora’s mother, Kandall and there is a Reverend wandering around despondently on the grounds. An almost farce but with deep emotional roots, I enjoyed the challenge of making Jonsey an absurd person with a grounded emotional core. Also the design on this show was amazing. The set by Joey Wade and executed by him and the Strawdog Ensemble was something to behold. It transformed the space, which designers had obviously done before. But you would never have guessed you were in a building, the garden experience was so well executed. This was aided by the fact that going into tech, a flower shop three doors down from Strawdog went out of business, and said “Take what you want.” I wish I had more pictures of this one, I believe there is still a shot of the garden up at Strawdog somewhere. #retrospective #2005 #impossiplemarriage #bethhenley #ericwegener #jonseywhitman #letmeshowyouwherethecardindalsgatherinthegrove https://www.instagram.com/p/B63QOOMpNBL/?igshid=1f2m4wwdscp2g
