I have this thing where I build Legos when I'm feeling really sad. But I haven't been sad for a long time so now I just have like 30+ Lego sets I've bought or have been gifted. Turns out it's called depression or something. Apathy and such. So now that I am diagnosed with The Super Sad, I'm apparently TOO SAD to build the Legos I got FOR THE SPECIFIC PURPOSE OF HEALING MY SAD
“daring to live beyond the realm of normal”
Looking back on my life, I notice that there were quite a few times I “dared to live beyond the realm of normal”. Now, I feel I’m on the precipice of going even further “beyond the realm of my current normal”…if I would just allow myself to dare to do so.
I regularly work with my Team of Guides and Angels (ToGAs) and I know they have my back. And yet…
Four years ago today, while going through chemotherapy for Leukemia and Lymphoma, I was having a pretty rough day, so I blogged about it on my cancer site. The post was titled, Life Beyond Normal, because at that point, my normal had been stripped away, turned completely upside down, shaken, and forever changed. I had to learn what my limits are all over again, and those who have known me for…
I’m midway through chapter 4, so I figured I’d share a little bit of what I’ve written. Mostly because I’m liking this scene so far, lol.
Here you go:
The group passed through a long hallway before coming to a stop outside a metal door. Jakard turned to them. “Emorah, will you keep an eye on those two,” he indicated Fey and Cece, “while I interrogate Mistim?”
Emorah sighed. “If I have to.” Despite being shorter than both of them, her expression was intimidating when she turned to them. “Follow me.”
Fey and Cece did so, though they only ended up going a few feet to the next door. Emorah opened the door and they both walked inside. The room beyond was a little like a waiting room at an office or hospital. Several chairs lined the bare, pale gray walls. A purple potted plant in the corner was the only real color to be had.
“So… what are you planning on doing with us?” Cece asked, folding her arms across her chest.
“That depends,” Emorah replied, gesturing for them to sit.
Fey shifted from foot to foot before perching on the edge of one of the chairs. “Depends on what?”
Cece sat beside her, crossing one leg over the other.
“On what we find out from Mistim,” Emorah said. She turned away and leaned her shoulder against a wall.
The door opened moments later and Tolin strolled in. “There weren’t a lot of options left, but these are pretty good. Here.” He held out two, small, pastel pink boxes decorated with orange splashes.
“What are these?” Fey took one and turned it over in her hands to look at the strange writing. “Candy?”
“Looks like it,” Cece said, opening the box and peering inside.
“They’re ‘Quelklies’,” Tolin explained. He grinned. “They’re pretty popular with the kids right now. I have to admit I like them too - they give you a good boost of energy.”
“‘Keel-klees’?” Fey pulled out a gummy-like candy in the shape of some sort of orange fish. Shrugging, she popped it into her mouth. Fey’s eyes widened as a mini explosion happened inside her mouth. The burst of fizzy flavour was a like the perfect combination of apples and peaches. She swallowed and felt a surge of energy. “Oh. My. God! Cece you have to have one now! That was...Wow!”
Cece’s brows rose but she tried one - neon green this time. Her reaction was immediate. “Holy Crap!” She giggled. “I don’t even like candy that much and these are awesome!”
“Right?” Fey laughed, eating another one.
“I guess these are good for now,” Tolin remarked, shaking his head.
Fey had to stop herself from stuffing her face with the rest. “Why do I feel like I could climb ten mountains right now?”
Tolin snorted. “I told you they give you a boost of energy. Because of the Enchantment on it? Doesn’t last long, though, so I don’t recommend climbing those mountains.”
So, there’s a snippet of what I’m working on. I hope it’s at least somewhat interesting ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Another protagonist, and Fey and Cece’s best friend and third roommate. :P
