SUMMARY • [OS] on a roadtrip to san diego, the boys meet you in the middle for a rest stop and get to meet your family!
for this one, i decided to get creative and make my own little au, if that's what you wanna call it, where reader has 3 siblings (let's say reader is around 21-23) - an older sister named Lucy (24), and a younger brother and sister named Riley (18) and Jean (16). if any of these are your own names i apologize profusely...
Sitting by the living room window, I pick up my phone to see the text from Isaac. It being around 12am with the whole house awake wasn't unnatural for my family, so I warned the boys that they'd be meeting them. I knew that they probably just wanted to arrive and then get to sleep as soon as possible, but I expressed that my family may make that hard. They seemed to be excited about it while I was dreading the endeavor. My siblings tended to pester newcomers, and my parents were rather talkative, so I didn't want to make their experience miserable. However, I love them all, and decide to give them grace for their cordiality.
As the 3 minutes pass, I see the gleam of headlights pulling into my driveway.
"They're here! Guys, be nice," I yell out to my siblings, who are scattered throughout the house. Riley idles in the kitchen with Jean next to him while Lucy sits on the other side of the living room. My parents currently reside upstairs, but I hear their footsteps traverse through the floorboards after I yell.
I open the front door to see the boys piling out of the car, less tired than I expected them to be.
"Hi gang!" I cheer, putting my arms up.
"What's going on!!" Tanner responds. As I greet and approach the boys, Larry wraps me in a hug, which everyone joins in on.
"Groupie! Groupie!" Nick says, voice muffled by the back of someone's arm.
"Come in! Everyone's down here. They'll probably chat you up but you don't have to-"
"Hellooo boys! How was your drive?" My mom yells out from the open front door, my dad by her side.
"Good, ma'am!" Nick responds.
"Come inside, it's too hot out there! We're air conditioned!"
I shrug, looking back at the boys with a face that reads 'yep... that's my mom...' and head inside with them.
"You've got a nice house, man!" Isaac says, looking around at everything.
"Momma's all about aesthetics," Dad responds.
The boys settle in the living room, scattered either on the sofa or one of the couches. They chat me and my parents up about their ride so far and what we'll do do once they take me with them and arrive in San Diego.
"And I hear you're doing a little video blog for this trip, am I right?" Mom asks.
"Yeah! We don't know if we'll put it on the internet or anything but we'll have it," Isaac responds.
"Man, I used to make those kinds of things... video blogs... I did it more in my college days. I used to have tapes of me and my girls day-drinking and dancing. I don't really know what happened to them. Maybe I'll do it more often... gotta keep the memories alive. I have babies that are still growing up!"
"Mom, please don't sob in front of her friends..." Lucy mutters, a hint of humor in her voice.
"No, mom's had a great day, she'll be fine," Dad says while rubbing her shoulder. Mom takes his hand in hers.
"I really did! Lots of great offers today AND a meeting I REALLY didn't want to have got cancelled! And I got extra time to see my kiddos' faces today..."
"You go, girl," Tanner says.
"Exactly. Man, I gotta head to bed soon though. I've had such a great day I don't want it to end."
"I'll be right behind you," Dad says, getting up along with my mom. "You kids let me know if they give you any trouble."
"Thank you so much for letting us stay!" Nick says.
"Of course, we've got you. Alright mama, let's get to bed. Have a nice trip!"
"Thank you!" the boys all say in unison.
As my parents stand, I eye up my brother Riley and sister Jean in the kitchen, who have mischevious looks on their faces. "You guys want some food?" Riley calls out. "I've got somethin' for you."
"Oh? What you got, buddy?" Larry responds.
I already know what stunt my brother is about to pull, and surprisingly, I let myself stay silent about it. I watch as Larry walks into the kitchen to investigate his 'food'.
He hands Larry a suspicious can of corn nuts, which he investigates thoroughly.
"They're good for eye health," Jean chimes in.
"Are there really corn nuts in here...?" Larry questions.
"What, you don't believe me? Open the can."
Larry quizzically looks at Riley, then back at me, then to Riley again, and carefully opens the can...
Seven colorful streamers burst out of the can and explode in his face. As Larry yelps, My brother and sister cackle while I duck my head in guilt. The boys watching the ordeal get a good laugh out of it.
"What the fuck, man?? OH! Excuse me, what the freak man??"
"Yeah, clean your goddamn dirty ass fuckin' mouth around me ya piece of shit. We don't fuckin curse in this house."
"You tell 'em, mothafucka!" My dad points and yells out from the stairs.
"Dad, tell Mom I should skip school on Monday, right?"
"Wh- Do you wanna graduate, kid???"
"Awwwhhh, he's graduating soonnnn," Lucy sobs. "Stop talking about that, I'll cry."
"Bro, I'm not even going anywhere. I'm just getting a full time job. You're too old to still be living with us anyway."
"So that was actually homophobic..!"
"Lesbian! Lesbian! Lesbian!"
"You shut your mouth, Riley!" Mom yells from upstairs. Riley shrugs and walks into the living room to be with everyone else, while Jean stays in the kitchen, mixing up an unknown concoction.
"So you're graduating soon? You're not going to college or nothing?" Isaac asks.
"Nah, I had a whole plan and everything buttt, in this economy, I figured it'd be better to just get a good job that allows me to have fun. Applying for scholarships just to still pay a fortune for school stresses me out anyway."
"Smart move. That can really save you. There's a lot you can do without going to college anyway."
"Yeah, y'all just make YouTube videos and can afford to live together and have fun," Lucy chimes in.
"Oh, we got lucky for sure. There's definitely stressful and risky parts about it but there's nothing really better we could ask for," Nick responds.
Jean enters the living room with a bowl of oatmeal.
"Oatmeal at 12am?" I question.
"It's basically morning for me," she says.
"Damn, y'all are nocturnal or something, do you even get sleep?" Tanner asks.
"Oh, somehow we do. I don't really know how or when we got used to this, but we just like staying up late. Hey, can I be in one of your videos?"
"Can you be in one of our videos???"
"Yeah, what kind of video, dude?" Nick asks, chuckling.
"I don't know, I saw your video where you spoiled your friends. I want a mall trip."
"Ehhhhh... we'll see about that..."
"I used to be a YouTuber," Riley says.
"Oh really? What'd ya do?"
"Played minecraft and geometry dash. I was like, 10. I was super famous. I had like 5k subs."
"Yessir! Get that bag!" Larry says, dapping up my brother.
"My sisters were in my videos too. We should watch those, they're still up."
"OHH I'm not sure about that..." I interrupt.
"Why not? Sounds like y'all had fun," Nick says.
"Ohhh believe me we did."
"Jeanie cried during a video 'cause she got mad and I kept it in," Riley adds. "She was like 7."
"I don't remember this???" Jean says, looking over at her brother with wide eyes.
"That's why we should watch it!"
My friends and my siblings continue to chat it up for about an hour, with festivities being moved to my room at some point. Isaac and Riley had a wrestling match, for what reason? I wasn't sure... We even fit some Wii games into the schedule, which was a blast.
As 1:30 hits, Nick realizes that we should begin going to sleep if we want to make it to San Diego in time without passing out. My siblings retreat to their bedrooms, while everyone else begins to head back down to to the living room. As they leave, I lay in my bed, scrolling on my phone for about 20 minutes, until I get a knock on my door.
My door opens, and Larry peers through.
"Hey, did I somehow leave my sleep stuff up here?"
"What, you mean your teddy bear and your baba?"
"Heh... Probably. Is that your bag?" I point to a lump on the floor I don't recognize.
Larry picks up the bag, looking through it for something.
"Hey... what did you think of my family? Were they too much?"
"No! They were perfect! You have such a cool family. Hold on, I'm gonna brush my teeth and wash my face and then come back. I wanna talk about that."
As I wait for Larry's return, I reflect on the night. I can definitely be aggrivated or annoyed by the people in my family at the worst times, but one thing they're great at is making life colorful. Having a big, beautiful family that naturally gets along and wants to hang out together is rare. Many people don't get those luxuries. If the price I pay is having to put up with them bothering me, then I'm grateful to have people as annoying as them.
"Back!" Larry says before coming into my room again.
"Oh- yes! Dude, I love your family. It looks like you guys love each other so much. And everyone's just so... I don't know. Brotherly. Sisterly. You act like friends."
"Yeah... they're great. I've been kinda thinking about that. And I don't like thinking about it cause I get emotional when I love someone so much. But truthfully, that's the exact feeling I get. Just love them so much I wanna cry. Riley graduating soon makes me wanna cry. Jean getting her license makes me wanna cry. Lucy looking after all of us makes me wanna cry. And my parents... knowing they do everything for us. I wanna cry. I won't. But it'd be nice if I could."
"You're so grateful," Larry says, looking at me with stars in his eyes. "That sounds amazing."
"The guys love them too. They were talking about it for a little bit down there. Honestly, they're getting pretty loud and stupid, I don't know if I'll be able to sleep. But they were just saying how they're all so cool and friendly and how you really deserve siblings as awesome as them. I agree. I was having a really good time with them and you. We'll have to come back and hang out or something."
"That would be awesome! They would love that. You should come to Riley's graduation, if you're okay with travelling this far again soon."
"I'll see if they'll be up for that."
There is some quiet between us. We look at each other for a little too long, just smiling with tiredness in our eyes. Larry suddenly breaks the silence.
"Dude... can I just sleep here? It's better in here with you."
As Larry gets under the covers, I reach out for my lamp and turn it off. I lay and pull Larry down with me, hugging him from behind. He relaxes into me, my hand resting on his arm. Our legs begin to intertwine as we get comfortable.
As I close my eyes, I can't help but take in the smell of his hair. Him being here will definitely keep me from falling asleep faster, but I don't mind too much.
At some point during our slumber, maybe 30 minutes in, Larry turns around so his body faces me. I absentmindedly pull his face to my chest and kiss the top of his head. His arms hug me and he relaxes, as do I.
I finally feel myself growing sleepy...
i hope you're okay with the amount of larryxreader i have here! i enjoyed the concept of this being a full group fic but wanted to sprinkle in some larryness just for u 😘
