Imagine if Kernel had shown up earlier in Grubb’s timeline and been friends with him and Bill-E. Both Bill-E and Kernel get ostracized at school (Bill-E’s lazy eye and Kernel’s alopecia) so they end up at the same lunch table one day and gradually became really good friends, so much so that Kernel starts seeing Bill-E as like a brother (hint hint pain imminent).

So when they finally realise Bill-E is the key, Kernel cant believe it, hes losing a brother again and this time he doesnt even get a choice.
