Heute vor 39 Jahren, am 9. Februar 1981, starb Bill Haley im Alter von nur 56 Jahren an den Folgen eines inoperablen Hirntumors. Eine Besonderheit an Haley's Karriere war die Tatsache, dass er in Europa und insbesondere in Deutschland auch nach der Blütezeit des Rock 'n' Roll populär war und es bis zu seinem seinem Tod geblieben ist. Aus heutiger Sicht kann man sich übrigens nur schwer vorstellen, dass seine Konzerte in Hamburg, München oder Stuttgart im Jahr 1958 zu Ausschreitungen und Randale führten. Die meist jugendlichen Fans zerlegten damals die Einrichtung der Konzertsäle und prügelten sich mit der Polizei.
