So sad to hear that the pie and mash shop in Chapel Street is going to close. Billyverse readers will know this is one of the few places Billy Wiggins will eat, and it features in several stories. Careful readers will note that Billy’s timeline has him eating there long after the planned closure date, but the Billyverse is an AU…

Note: the picture shows pie and mash in its glory. The pies have “meat” in them. Possibly beef, and have a flaky pastry top and a suet pastry bottom. The green stuff is parsley sauce, known as “liquor”. Mash should never come in scoops, just a heap “wiped” on to the side of the plate. And it should not contain milk, cream or any other thinning agent. Brown (malt) vinegar, salt and white pepper are the only approved condiments.
