TLG: Final 10 Episodes Sketch Dump
September 2nd once again fell on a Labor Day, like it once did when the final 10 episodes of TLG dropped on WatchTLG (due to its early release on the old DisneyNOW app). The alignment of the exact day, month, and holiday five years later put me in the spirit to sketch away as I rewatched these episodes.
I was there when the countdown on the WatchTLG site had about an hour left. I hadn't seen a full episode of TLG until that point because I at the time thought I wouldn't be into it. I saw the synopses for these episodes leaked somewhere online and was doubtful yet VERY hopeful that the one with Vitani's Lion Guard was going to be a real episode simply because I wanted to see her in new content, regardless of my familiarity with the show.
When I binge-watched these final episodes with a friend, my relationship with the show improved as I went to watch the rest of the show over the next few months. I was so grateful to see so much content and worldbuilding for the TLK universe
Sketch descriptions under the cut:
sort of a screenshot redraw of my versions of bunga and binga (aka binti) <3 background is a screenshot from the show
I dont care what the Bunga haters say I think he would be a great dad. He's probably not the one doing the more "serious" stuff, but I think he would be the fun dad.
I feel like it would be really interesting if he takes up adoption like his dads, and I think it'd be extra cute/cool if he ends up adopting animals that were the lion guard's enemies. Maybe he adopts a cobra, snow leopard, binturong, komodo dragon, african/asiatic leopard, vulture, monitor lizard, crocodile, porcupine, scorpion, or jackal. I mean I'm more inclined to a cobra and binturong because those directly affect him and Binga, but any of the others would be really fun.
I think I remember someone talking about him adopting/taking care of an indian/egyptian cobra directly related to Ushari somehow and I really think that'd be interesting to explore with his character. Let him grapple with the fact he killed someone (I should add that Ushari did not die so someone could be fed, and Bunga was just doing self defense, but still), that because of his own actions, this cobra lost a family member. Now, maybe he wants to step up and help that cobra and possibly their family. I just think it'd be really cool to see him and Kion interact with Ushari's family members, Roar Towards The Future and Perfectly Valued does that well.
Really any animal that is an "enemy" would be very cute to see. I honestly just do see Bunga maturing over time, and becoming the fun dad. He knows how to babysit, and maybe he uses that knowledge for being a father, or maybe he just takes up a "job" of babysitting a lot of animal's kids sometimes. (If I may add in a little bit of my headcanon/universe here, he, Binga, and Nirmala all start up a tiny adoption/nursery program at the tree of life. Binga and Bunga work a lot with setting up the program, and Nirmala is there since she's the healer, but other animals end up taking over some of Bunga and Nirmala's jobs. Binga stays, she's the main "guard" of the program after training a little with Beshte and Baliyo for basic combat, and she's also still like the host and all. I follow the bear Binga headcanon as well, so she is also just like a beast at combat anyway, she doesn't fight much, but she will fight if needed.)
.

Commissioned from @mantykukka for $70 (there was a delay so this was finished now when the commission was intitiated back in December, but it's here now, and she did an amazing job on it!) Give them a follow!
Bunga and Binga's first kiss following their reunion at the Tree of Life.
In my fanon, Binga's a sloth bear. To keep it brief, I do not like Binga. I found it lazy how they just decided to have Bunga's girlfriend be a cisbend of him. Out of all of the ships in Season 3 (both canon and implied), this is my least favorite because of how both characters are wasted in it.
So in my version, she's a sloth bear, keeping the theme of Bunga's girlfriend being a fellow insect predator, as well as also further establishing the "India" setting at the Tree of Life. It added the bonus of having Bunga be the small one in a height difference relationship.
Instead of being clones of each other, they are polar opposites. Binga being more shy and reserved, while Bunga is more wreckless with crackhead energy. They get to know each other and despite their differences, they get along well, to the point where their traits rub off on each other; Bunga finds ways of having fun that don't involve putting himself at risk, whilst Binga learns to take risks and make the most of what she's got. It wasn't until Bunga left after the final battle with Makucha did the two realize how much they enjoyed each other's company and how they didn't want it to end.
When the Lion Guard head back to the Tree of Life, Bunga and Binga get the chance to meet each other again, and are ecstatic to see their respective childhood friends (Kion and Rani) get married and crowned. That night, they meet up with each other to have a proper reunion, to catch each other up on anything and in the moment, confess that the most fun that they've ever had was each other. Aaand cue their first kiss.
what about Binga from The Lion Guard and Lammy from Happy Tree Friends? they have basically the same colors 😭
