Can you believe that this sculpture is partially made of sculpted glass? Not only that, but sculptor @johnsleepymoran has a fascinating story behind its creation... "In the summer of 2012, I visited the Fine Arts Belgium museum in Brussels to see the Death of Marat. I had the idea for Sale of a Deathman almost instantly after the visit, but I wasn't sure how to pursue the piece. Soon after - September 11, the night of the Benghazi attacks, the news was misleading us to believe they were the caused by reactions to the idiotic YouTube movie, The Innocence of Muslims. That night, while watching news on the attacks, I was explaining the idea for this piece to some friends. We started discussing whether or not it was a good idea to make it. I began work on Deathman the next day. The sculpture is not about the actual killing of Bin Laden, but the American reaction to the news. People were dancing in the streets and holding parties outside of the White House. I will not lie, I was relieved when the announcement came that Bin Laden was dead. But why? Was I conditioned to think this way? Were we all? The reactions of people and the use of a state sanctioned assassination as a selling point during a Presidential election is horrifying. At that moment any illusion of a societal moral high ground was lost. When I began the piece the day after the attacks, I knew that it was not so much about Bin Laden, but about the conflicting perceptions people can have of individuals killed pursuing and defending dogmatic beliefs."
