well it’s obvious that Batman has multiple robins, why else would he be brooding on the roof so often?

cedar waxwing at a concert for the cranberries: i think there's been a misunderstanding
One bird cannot make a pun. But toucan
"Are you an early bird or night owl?"
I'm a mourning dove.
Move in if you want but I can’t promise there won’t be bird-centric features.
We have been sleeping on crows.
Redwall has villainized them. Disney made them racist. Erin Hunter ignored them in favor of cats, dogs, even effing bears. They were background nuisances in Ga’Hoole. Rio didn’t even acknowledge their existence.
And I have no idea why.
You want an animal that can create a functioning society? Crows. These guys are literally the smartest birds on the planet. They play games, they use (and make!) tools and food storage, they even have funeral rites (I am not making this up). They even have the concept of a nuclear family (and they regularly visit family members), clans, and probably tribes, given the fact that they roost in the thousands when it isn’t breeding season.
Crows will take care of disabled loved ones. They have developed compassion to the extent that they don’t simply “abandon the cripples” like some species I could mention. When a crow dies unexpectedly, they investigate it and figure out what’s up to stay safe in future. The crows do detective work.
I mean, anyone who has read Six of Crows or watched the new show can tell you that crows remember faces, both allies and enemies. And they don’t just keep that knowledge to themselves. They spread it to everyone they know and then pass it on through the generations. If you make a crow mad, you have just begun a full-on blood feud with the literal symbol of vengeance. Their friends and family will literally start a war with you. If you get a crow to like you, however, you have just ensured that the entire family will pack-bond with you and protect you against any threat.
On that note, crows are also kind of in an eternal war with ravens, which, if nothing else, would be an amazing plot point (especially since the crows are winning handily).
Crows even have language. Their system of communication is so large and complex we barely understand it, and they learn local dialects to communicate with each other and other species of corvid.
On top of all that, crows understand economics! They have a concept of value and exercise a trade economy. If you get things right, they’ll bring you money in exchange for food, so they’re basically one step away from capitalism.
So yeah. You want an animal that can build functioning society, construct tools and shelters, practice trade, have an actual built-in sense of humor, and keep some kind of history? In other words, you want a species that is already in the Neolithic stage of civilization? Crows.
Warriors is great and all, but let’s give our feathered friends their time in the limelight.
Also, the babies are ducking adorable.
Birb boi dabbin' on them haters. 😎👌
(I used Instagram's "Lark" filter because lol bird puns.)
Does anybody remember this song?? I present, the Kookaburra, “King of the Bush”
I made him in Adobe illustrator and was very proud of him
