Queers Pitted Against One Another
Sometimes people don't believe me when I say that Bisexuals are discriminated in the LGBT community.
Normally the shtick was that Bisexuals were "gay tourists," "confused" and even "slutty." My favorite is the assumption it is some type of mask gay people use to still pass in the straight community. The worst I have seen was a post by an individual who said if you are bisexual and in a heterosexual relationship, you are excommunicated from the LGBT+ community. Not going to lie, when I saw that I convinced myself that no matter who I date along the way, I must settle down with a woman or else everyone would think my bisexuality was a college phase. Or worse, my ex-friends would think they were right when that said I was dating women “to be cool.” Of course, I have worked on my insecurities around Biphobia and I no longer think the same way, but I still sometimes fear what people think when they see I am in a happy relationship with a man.
We are not completely accepted by the gay community while at the same time we don't fit into the straight community.
But now this whole deal is a new one. “#DropTheB” takes the cake in “Social Justice Warriors” doing more harm than good. They have made 2018 quite a headache.
Yes, I agree that there are more than two genders. I won't argue that. Call yourself whatever you want, but please allow bisexuals to label themselves as they please.
Also, there already is a label for the exact thing you are attacking bisexuality about. Pansexual is when you are attracted to all genders. Did you know it is actually "LGBT+?" extending to "LGBTQQIP2SAA." The "P" is represented, do not worry.
Have you thought that possibly Bisexuals are ONLY attracted to the Male and Female genders and nothing in-between? Or whatever two genders they are attracted to.
Is that wrong? No. You can love as many or as little genders as you choose, so please lay off.
Also if we use this incohesive logic, homosexuals would also be discriminative? They are attracted to only one gender, therefore they do not “recognize the other genders” and should be dropped from the LGBT community. Ridiculous when you think about it right? I saw a post that shocked me stating Bisexuality is Transphobic. So is Heterosexuality transphobic? Please get over yourself, just because someone is not attracted to you does not mean they hate you or don’t respect you.
It is important to note that this whole trend has stemmed from a 4chan meme where someone wrote “doesn’t the B in LGBT imply there are only two genders?” Well first let’s clear something up, Bisexual does not imply that there are only two genders, it implies they are only attracted to two. Does bilingual mean that there are only two languages in the world? Secondly, this meme was created to destabilize the LGBT+ community and we are allowing it to happen. We got this far by supporting one another, now we are attacking one another from within. It is almost as if the world has gotten so good, we are looking for things to protest against.
Stripping someone of their identity and putting them in boxes is the opposite direction that I think people intended to go when they make these posts, but it is exactly what they are doing.
I started going by "Queer" a long time ago due to the headache of explaining myself around the stigma of Bisexuality. Honestly, that is quite sad when you think about it.
It is bad enough that Biphobia still exists today, why add more fuel to that fire?
