A couple of face ups for my wife on her Soom MD Rico/Serin heads to be her kirin pirate captain character. She allowed me to place some non-permanent piercings which I think really add to this sculpt. 

I tried out again the Citadel Munitorum Varnish as sealant, but I just can’t befriend it or see myself using it for commissions. It doesn’t have as much tooth as MSC and takes more layers of color build up to get the same intensity as MSC in 1-2 layers. Maybe I need to spray lighter layers? I don’t know yet, I’ll keep experimenting on my own dolls to see if I can get the hang of it.

Quick commission for my wife, repainted her Volks YoSD Chinatsu as a cute little girl rather than a fire troll as she was before. What a change!

This head belongs to my wife and was modded by me years ago to be dreaming rather than open eyed. She is a Dollzone April that I tried to paint similarly to her default face up from 2012? Either way, my wife loves the work and that’s all that matters!

Here we have a Fairyland MNF RFA event head from 2015. I’ve always liked this sculpt a lot, I think it’s really cute! For this face up the client asked me to do light freckles, natural blushing, and some earth toned make up. It was fun!

I finished this face up and body blush on a Lillycat Cerisedoll Chibbi-Lana in peachy normal skin this past weekend. 

The client asked for a full freckled face up and body blush with a natural not flushed look. It was fun to do! They even sent me the wig so I could color match the eyebrows and lashes to it. I did apply eyelashes, but I didn’t take any good pictures of the Lana with them in before packing her up.

Quick and easy skin texture/freckles tutorial

What you need: Pastels, old toothbrush, q-tip, brush for mixing, patience

Our vict- eh, head that needs freckles.

Scrap some bits off of your pastel stick (the finer, the better). I’m using Schmincke soft pastels (Burnt yellow ochre H plus Pouzzuli earth D). Add water, mix everything. Dip the toothbrush into the mix.

Flick the brushes onto a paper towel, to get it a bit less watery. Its not a must, but if you’re using that technique straight onto the head, you a) don’t know how vibrant the colors are and b) will get big blotches. and you’ll want small dots for a (semi-) realistic look.

Flick the toothbrush bristles over the head/areas you want to add freckles/textures on.

Use a q-tip to remove dots that you don’t like. Since they’re wet, its easy to remove them.

Repeat 4 and 5 until you like it. Take some time between layers to let them dry; yo can also vary the colors you’re using.

Tadaa! Done.

Tips: ▸Don’t do it as I did it -after- you’ve done details like eyebrows/lashes, but before, otherwise you’ll layer the dots over the details.If you want to do it after the detaisl, remember to seal everything before the freckles/texture, so you don’t accidentally remove details when removing small dots with the q-tip.

▸Be aware that even though you can remove dots when they’re dry, they will leave some kind of very faint blushing.

▸Work form a very light color to heavier colors. Pastels mostly look more vibrant when freshly sprayed onto a head, but dim a bit down when drying.

▸On dark heads/tan dolls - freckles will appear faint when dry (even if you’re using dense dark colors), but they WILL pop up after you sealed them. Also applies to some extend on NS/WS heads, just not that obvious.

Here we have evafeatherlow‘s Luts TDF Gelda Elf in real skin brown. She is a centaur so eventually I need to put white freckles along her butt.
