Well, the wig itself came out piss poor and has been sitting in a drawer for a few months but then i realizedI can at least use it to practice dutch braiding.

Did a faceup, bodyblush, and wig commission for my sister’s very first BJD :D

She has since gone home to live with my sister and been dubbed Juliana. She’s been given some wonderful hand embroidered and sewn socks with adorable garters, and my sister is working on the rest of her (first) outfit now.

I’m thinking of opening up some commission slots, nothing majorly expensive since I’m not a professional yet. Mostly just pay for materials and an optional tip while I practice and work on figuring out my price point. What do you guys think?

I may also start selling some handmade wigs, different prices for different materials/styles. I love wig making.

Making my first sewn weft wig for BJD. I don’t have a ton of experience in wig making in general, none at all in making a sewn wig.

But I got in these absolutely gorgeous sewn angora fiber wefts and I really wanted to give it a try. The fiber came from “Golden Fleece” on Etsy, they’re in Russia. I do not know if this was pre-made in stock ready to ship, or was made to order, but it took 5 weeks from the time I ordered until delivery.

You can see though, that it looks gorgeous with my grey Twigling Gamine’s complexion.

I first made a sewn wig cap out of elastic and stretchy lace, I machine sewed the pieces together but after that, everything was hand sewn with thread and needle and sewn in situ on the dolls head. The first wig cap I sewed on my Twigling Gamine, but it turned out way too tight, probably because it was sewn too stretched. It fit my Minifee Altis head perfectly, however that wasn’t helpful since I wanted the wig fit my Gamine. So I made another cap, this time on a Fifth Motif Venitu head and voilà, fit Gamine perfectly! 😆

Next I coated the wig with Fabric Fusion fabric glue to give the cap some tackiness to help it stick to the head better. This is the part that I wonder if I could have done after I finished sewing all the wefts on instead became it definitely was not fun to try and sew through that stuff with a needle, and there was A LOT of hand sewing needed to sew all these wefts on!

But yeah, sewing the wefts on, I started with three layers in the back of the head and then did the spiral technique over the remainder of the head. Lots of hand sewing. In total I used 122cm of the sewn wefts to make this wig.

I tried to allow some degree of spacing so the wig wouldn’t be too full, never the less though, it still turned out fuller than I would have liked.

But overall, the fiber is beautiful and I’m proud of my first attempt at this!

Making a wig for my merrydollround Dango, take 1 and 2. The last photo is the final product and I'm fairly happy about it. I'm still hoping to preorder a wig her size from Frappzilla, when preorders open up.
