Alright, story time!
So, was given an initiation ritual by Konpè Anansi to see if I was ready to begin studying(?) to become a Griot/Jeli/Storyteller (note later*) and that was. Exhausting. Basically, he had me memorize a story (in this case, a song) while crafting a piece of jewelry for him, while also folding the spiritual essence of the story into the song to prove I could work with Story Magic as well.
After finishing the piece, which took 2.5h, he had me recite it back to him without messing up (minus a couple flubs due to physical lisp with certain words) to finish the enchantment and Appraised it and the story to see how I did. I haven’t expended my energy over that long of a time while also doing a physical task without stopping before and BOY was that a time. It was so hard to make. That’s essentially 4 separate necklaces in one that I had to make while memorizing something AND keeping spellwork going.
Konpè Anansi told me to find out where to learn more about becoming a Jeli/Griot and to ask around about it, because it’s usually a hereditary role but all records of my family pre-great great grandmother were burned during the civil war, and all my living family is Very Christian. After he had me go through this test he told me “you have my blessing to seek instruction on this now” but I just.. don’t know where? And knowing Anansi it might just Happen but I still feel like I should ask around, but pandemic Extremely Complicates things.

I am working hard but thanks to the lack of dental coverage in the US, I hadn’t been able to get to the dentist since I was in high school. I now need 3 root canals and because of my MSW program’s requirement that field placement’s be unpaid, I loose the little dental I have and the opportunity to get the care I need in 3.5 weeks.
Anything you can do, even if it is just sharing helps. I am hoping the procedure soon.
Celebrating Dionysia ta astika this weekend with a double feature, dinner and drinks at this brewery, and when I get home, libations to Hephaestus (I only have chicken broccoli and wine, hopefully that'll do).
