Boxopening - Black Ship Oil Painting Body (1/4) (Joe)

My second boxopening today is... my Oil Painting body! I am not even sure if I announced it but this will be the body for my doll of Joe. I had considered shelling her as a doll last year already but the head I got back then was turned intot he one for Maria. Therefore we go with the second attempt. I needed this body for her as she's an older mature woman and needs curves.

The box, the certificate and everything is a work of art in general. It was an expierence to unbox this.

Look at this beauty.

Also the neck donut is a big fat seal.

Follow young Heinrix, imprisoned on a black ship, on a day that continued to haunt him decades later.

Excerpt:

Whimpering noises reached him in his sleep, and still dizzy, he instinctively reached out, softly touching the body beside him.

“It's fine… go back to sleep, Elsbeth”, he whispered, with words faintly blurred by sleep and sluggish tongue; letting his youngest sister know he was there, that it was just another nightmare, and nothing bad could happen to her with him at her side. Usually, that was all it took for her to sink back into slumber again.

But the harsh response - his hand suddenly yanked away and an unexpected voice barking at him - pulled him out of his half-asleep state.

“Don't touch me!”

Immediately, he recoiled, pulling back his hand, and with drowsy eyes, he stared into the dirty, angry face at his side - almost hidden beneath greasy strands of fair hair and barely visible in the dim light. The facial features of an adolescent a few years older than him, not yet a man, but also no longer a child.

“Thank you for waking me, you piece of Grink-shit!”

Heinrix instantly winced, his face twisting into a brief grimace as Aldrin's words struck him with a cruel, intentional reminder of the day he had lost everything.

Not that it ever left his mind - the knowledge that he was a murderer.

Accursed.

A monster.

That he deserved what was coming to him, just like everyone had said.

A Japanese Imari porcelain ‘Black Ship’ bowl and cover, Meiji Period., c. 1890

The bowl is hand painted to one side with a large sailing ship with Dutch flags, whilst the reverse with a group of Dutch Traders in conversation. Set upon a foot rim painted with a continuous whorl motif, and having twin scroll cases painted within the rim. The cover similarly decorated.

Diameter – 11.7 cm, 4 5/8”. Height – 7.5 cm, 3”.

Location: Perry Road, Shimoda, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan Timestamp: 15:23 June 6, 2023

One of the sites where US Naval Commodore Perry initially landed in Japan, demanding an end to Japan's extensive period of isolation spanning over 200 years, and advocating for trade with the Western world through the use of gunboat diplomacy, has been immortalized in the history books. The city of Shimoda is the location where the Treaty of Peace and Amity was signed in 1854 between the US Government and the Japanese Tokugawa shogunate.

Within this city, there exists many unique manhole covers that pay homage to the iconic "Black Ships." These legendary vessels earned their name from the Japanese people themselves, owing to their distinctive black hulls and the billowing black smoke emitted by their coal-fired steam engines.

Episode 4 of the Shogun remake is a good showcase for a specific development in the history of warfare. When galleons, made to survive the rougher conditions of the Atlantic, went up against galleys and small boats made for seas, the ancient tactics of boarding and fighting hand-to hand didn’t work anymore because they were just too tall.

There’s one story of a galleon sailing into the Mediterranean and getting attacked by quinqueremes and galleasses, and when one tried to ram her like it was the Peloponnesian or Punic Wars the galley just crushed herself against the side of the galleon, doing no damage.
