I’m kinda sad that the Bleakwatch Chronicles aren’t getting that much hype. It was published 3 months before Wings of Starlight so I was surprised that I didn’t hear about it until after both were published.

Like, yeah it’s aimed at younger readers and almost everyone who watched the movies are adults now, but the first book is actually really good if you like the films. It’s a little fast paced at times, but reading it felt like watching the movies again and it expands on the world created in the films. The new cast is charming and unique. And it ended on a pretty decent cliffhanger for the sequel to follow up on.

It also reintroduces the concept of talentless fairies, the secondary protagonist is genderless (with no attention being brought to it at all), brings iron into the franchise (which afaia was mythology not adopted previously), and has anti-capitalist and totalitarian commentary. The only thing that truly brings it down is the irony of it being a Disney product.

Super excited for this book and it's obvious connection to dreams and dream talents—something I have noticed as a common thread between Bleakwatch and Wings of Starlight—yet I am a little wary as I think the reason that Wings of Starlight was so good was because of Allison Saft's writing. This website lists the author as RH disney and when you click on that link it introduces an author named Anna Bright. It looks like she has some interesting books and I'm sure she'll do a great job, but I'm a little wary about the continuity of a series where the books are written by different authors. Still, I am looking forward to this!

Connections Between Bleakwatch Chronicles and Wings of Pixie Hollow

So I might just be huffing too much copium since each Amazon listing update makes it seem more and more likely that the Bleakwacth Chronicles was quietly shelved in favor of the more popular Wings of Pixie Hollow series.

But I had a theory! What if the second Bleakwatch Chronicles book was delayed because Wings of Reverie needed to be released first?

Underneath is my theory which does include spoilers for the Bleakwatch, Wings of Starlight, and Wings of Reverie so be warned.

The biggest connection between BC (Bleakwatch Chronicles) and WoS (Wings of Starlight) is that they both have dream-talents and they're both used the same way.

In WoS it's revealed that in Pixie Hollow's earliest days, dream-talents existed to help raise and nurture the Pixie Dust tree when it was still a sapling. They would create dream-thread that they would weave into the Pixie Dust Tree's branches to protect and nourish the tree.

In BC, dream-talents are responsible for collecting dreams. They turn the dreams into dream dross which is used to help the Golden Dustcap replenish it's pixie dust.

Weaver is a new character in WoR (Wings of Reverie) and is secretly a dream-talent. We don't actually know what happens during a winter-fairies talent ceremony, we just assume it's the same as the warm fairies. In the press release, it's stated that he's keeping his talent a secret and calls himself a craft-talent. Which wouldn't make much sense, since the fairies would have seen his talent ceremony and know he doesn't actually have a talent. Not to say the winter fairies already think that.

Another tidbit is that in WoS, it sounded like the dream-talents were warm fairies. They trapped the nightmares on the warm side and delivered them to the winter woods where frost-talents froze them into the lake. It could be as simple as they have warm and winter dream-talents, but then why not just let the winter-dream-talents deal with the nightmares.

My theory is that Weaver is actually a dream-talent from Bleakwatch. I think that he was once an aeronaut who didn't have a talent. He saved up as much pixie dust as he could so he could escape Bleakwatch and go to Pixie Hollow. Sure, they have a mistrust with the Pixie Hollow fairies, but anywhere is better then Bleakwatch. He might have been a heliograph who just wanted to leave Bleakwatch cause if he was an aeronaut he would need to get rid of his cuff somehow, or realize that the cuff was what was surpressing his talent. Though maybe it broke at some point or maybe Pixie Hollow pixie dust hits different.

Weaver might have followed the winter fairies back to Pixie Hollow after they delivered winter, which is why he ended up in the Winter Woods. I theorize that Bleakwatch fairies aren't affected by temperatures like the never fairies since they live on the Mainland all year round. It would be difficult to only be active during a few times of the year, especially for a working class whose primary job is to collect human objects.

One reason I believe he's an aeronaut fairy is because he calls himself a craft-talent. Aeronauts would have to get creative in order to live in the Gnome Market. He would have developed skills in order to survive in the Gnome Market since he didn't have his talent yet. Maybe he called himself a craft-talent before he discovered his talent, but when he realized what it was and that there weren't any other dream-talents in Pixie Hollow, he had to keep it a secret.

Bleakwatch needs dream-talents in order to keep the Golden Dustcap alive the same way the dream-talents of Pixie Hollow kept the young pixie dust tree alive. Since the pixie dust tree no longer needs dream thread in order to survive, there wouldn’t be a reason for dream-talents to naturally occur in Pixie Hollow. But during his time in Pixie Hollow he might learn how to create dream-thread. It might be hard since dreams don’t come to Neverland anymore, but I guess we will have to wait and see.

The final thing I have to add is that WoR is a prequel to Secret of the Wings. Since he definitly didn't appear in that movie, I first thought that he dies in the end. But maybe he decides to go back to Bleakwatch to become a freedom fighter or something.

So Tl;dr, Weaver is a fairy from Bleakwatch. He's an aeronaut who developed crafting skills so he could survive in the Gnome Market. After a while he gets fed up, saves up his pixie dust to go to Pixie Hollow cause anywhere would be better then Bleakwatch. He goes back to Pixie Hollow with the winter fairies and poses as one until one day he discovers his true talent which is only found in Bleakwatch so he has to keep it secret. After the events of WoR, he decides to go back home so he can become a freedom fighter or he because figures out a better way to replenish the Golden Dustcap while in Pixie Hollow. Either way, he will go back to Bleakwatch and become a central character for the second book which is why the second Bleakwatch book has been delayed.

It's a bit of a stretch, but honestly I just want the second Bleakwatch Chronicle book to release. But what are your thoughts? Please comment if you have other ideas!
