So I'm half Chinese and that side of my family has recently experienced a lot of pain. My Mandarin isn't great but I wanted to incorporate what little I knew in this piece. Especially since my family follows this ancestry poem (the last two lines). It's a tradition we've used to name each generation and according to my 姥姥 (grandma) it loosely translates to "Just as the spring trees continue, so will our family". Which in the face of death seems poignent and appropriate. I hope you enjoy. And if anyone knows Chinese, feel free to critique me! I'm still working to increase my fluency. . . . #poetsofinstagram #poetscommunity #poets #herheartpoetry #bleedingheartpoetry #poemoftheday #loss #spilledinkpoetry #bleedingpoetry #eyesearsmouth #姥姥 #chinese #chinesepoem #myheritage #myfamily #death #darkpoetry #darktimes https://www.instagram.com/p/CBix9JKFTlJ/?igshid=6it3m9ysei4o
