Wild Mirage by Renee Lund Via Flickr: HEATWAVES effect most of my photographs that are taken from long distances. The extreme temperatures cause air waves from both cold & hot that take over the auto focus of my lens and create a wavy distortion. The farther away you are from the horses the more waves tend to show in the photographs. At times it can be pretty intense and develops what I call a "mirage". It is like looking through water and at times it can actually turn out quite beautiful.

With picturesque rocky peaks, narrow canyons and open woodlands, the Dripping Springs Natural Area is one of the most beautiful places to photograph in New Mexico. The Organ Mountains overlooking the area are named for their steep spires that resemble the pipes of an organ. They rise over 9,000 feet in elevation and provide a haven for hikers and adventure seekers. With over four miles of easy hiking trails, there are excellent opportunities to view wildlife and walk along the low elevation pinyon-juniper and oak woodlands. Today is National Love Your Pet Day! Sharing beautiful adventures with our best friends makes everything better. Dog-friendly options are available at many public lands, like the lovely Illipah Reservoir Recreation Area in Nevada managed by the Bureau of Land Management. Watch the sunset, run free and get the zoomies (in designated areas) or take to the trail together. Exploring these places with our pets makes unfurgettable memories. Spend the night under a blanket of stars at Upper Missouri Wild and Scenic River in Montana. You can camp in the same locations as the 1805 Lewis and Clark expedition on your multi-day river adventure. With 149 miles of river and several public launch points to choose from, your trip lengths may vary from one day to ten days or more. The Big Southern Butte rises over 2,500 ft. above eastern Idaho's Snake River Plain. At only 300,000 years old, it's one of the youngest and largest formations of its kind in the world. The challenging trail to the summit ends in an unparalleled 360 degree view of the plain and distant mountain ranges. Near Craters of the Moon National Monument, visiting Big Southern Butte is easiest from mid-May through October - depending on snow conditions, so there’s still time to book your visit. Fantasy Canyon...a unique and beautiful spot on our public lands in Utah. .. What's your thoughts on tagging awesome locations? Some think you shouldn't and say that beautiful or unique places are getting overwhelmed by people, or that people try to go to extreme locations unprepared. Some think people are just being selfish. They got to visit, or paid a guide, and they want to keep it a secret and not let others have their experience. We had such a good time boondocking with @debdeb4813 at La Posa BLM LTVA. We ran into several other full-time Rv'er friends that were in the area as well. We jeeped up to dripping springs and saw the petroglyphs. We also explored the flea market at Tysons Well.
