Starry portrait of New Mexico’s favorite hiker. (I’m not a state rep. All opinions are my own. It’s true though. 😉) What you don’t see in this picture is my fingers going numb, because I had to repeatedly take off my gloves to adjust my camera throughout the night. This is around the moment when the 20° temperature had finally become too much. The pain as they started to warm and the feeling came back was excruciating to say the least. While in the car on the way home, I found out my thick gloves had an internal set of thinner gloves. 🙃 I thought they were just a fluffy liner until I felt the velcro. 🙃🙃🙃 Anywho, I like this picture a lot. With picturesque rocky peaks, narrow canyons and open woodlands, the Dripping Springs Natural Area is one of the most beautiful places to photograph in New Mexico. The Organ Mountains overlooking the area are named for their steep spires that resemble the pipes of an organ. They rise over 9,000 feet in elevation and provide a haven for hikers and adventure seekers. With over four miles of easy hiking trails, there are excellent opportunities to view wildlife and walk along the low elevation pinyon-juniper and oak woodlands. Ext. Somewhere In between - Day A crisp and heavy air settled like a weigh over the arid landscape. It felt as quiet as a ghost town. A slight breeze stirs through the persistent dirt. A reminder that everything is change. A Coyote howls off in the mountain. He'll be here later, lingering under the moon. A man with his face hidden beneath a weather-beaten hat sat quietly beside a degraded mesquite bush. His hands are obvious, rough and broken down. Deep-seated with pain. He appears to be neither here nor there. Restless to ramble yet homesick at the same time. A man in a foreign land. He's got plenty of stories. Those of the old days spent under the trees and others fueled by a wild rage. He's still trying to learn. Maybe he's gone crazy. Maybe his thoughts are heavy. Maybe he's just a long way from home.   Or maybe he's just a ghost. ~ rwd - The Outlaw Way -
