Miss Fisher Australia Tour (79)
Please correct me if I am wrong. The Royal Arcade and Block Arcade were not used as filming locations for any episodes in the three seasons, but one of them did make an appearance in a S3 promo video. Since they both are iconic tourist attractions, I decided to dedicate a post to them.
The Royal Arcade, opened in 1870, is a historic shopping arcade in the central business district of Melbourne. The Block Arcade, opened a couple of decades later in 1892, is also considered one of the Victorian era’s finest shopping arcade. The two are in walking distance from each other, separated by Little Collins Street. To be honest, I find it difficult to tell them apart while looking at the photos online. One special feature about Royal Arcade that got mentioned a lot is the large carved mythic figures of Gog and Magog guarding Gaunt’s Clock on the southern entrance to the Arcade, which can be accessed via Bourke Street Mall, or Little Collins Street. As for the Block Arcade, I believe the Hopetoun Tea Rooms storefront window with the delectable cakes and pastries display is where we see Phryne in the S3 promo video.
Although I don’t have Phryne’s budget, I plan on doing lots of window shopping at both arcades. Of course, enjoying tea and cakes at Hopetoun Tea Rooms is definitely on the itinerary.
