Guys, if you're uncomfortable with some content on Tumblr or any other social media, block it, block them. It is social media, you are here to enjoy yourself and have fun, taking it too seriously and raising your blood pressure doesn't do anyone any good. (This is especially true for those with OCD or any other triggering illnesses)

Blocking someone doesn't mean either you or the person you're blocking is a bad person, it just means that you are not interested in the content they post.

Talking about blocking

I noticed that these days some people use the block button faster then you can blink. I remeber that months ago I made a post, someone had another view, made their comment and blocked me right after, without giving me a chance to interact in any form

And that is so sad and I think also a reason why social media and also society is like it is today. Because you all create your own bubbles. Sensitive to other opinions and in the moment someone manages to confront you with another opinion you snap! I saw that so often. Not only here on tumblr. How many people have me blocked because I have another opinion (and you all know me, I would never anon hate, spam or bully). Social media is a safe space also for me. But imo safe space does not mean „do not tolerate other opinions“ but „protect yourself from trolls, TERFs, homophobia, racism, sexism and be able to speak your mind freely in exchange with other people“

Some people lost that ability completly and that is sad (and again, I am not talking about racism, homophobia etc. That is not an opinion)

Does anyone know a way of blocking anons from side-blogs?

I mean when an anon is being shitty and you want to block that person... it seems this only blocks them from your main blog, not the side-blog that they sent the shitty ask to in the first place 😑

Just got another block but this in the tags I found both funny and troubling (though nothing surprisingly new! in regards to hypocritical human kind)

Sometimes tumblr is lika kindergarden. Like i truely love it here, but you know me, i allways try to say polite and never call someone names but i am not shy to discuss with people. And sometimes it is like, someone makes a post and leaves the comment section open for everyone.

Me: “Well i do not agree with you.

Person: Why did you comment when you do not share my opinion?

Me: “Well this is how communication functions. You can not think that everyone will allways agree with you

But at this point you are allready blocked. So you check their blog (offline) and see that they are talking shit behind your back. And from time to time even tell their followers to hate (in this case) me and block (in this case) me as well. It is the kindergarden equivalent of: This person was mean to me. We do not like her anymore.”

Like do not get me wrong. I totally support the use of the block function, espcially when you are not in the emotional state to argue with people or when people are hunting you down.

But imo, posting your opinion in the tags, means it will be seen by people. And that allways includes the option that people will comment on your post with a different opinion. And i think as long it is not a racistic, sexistic, homophobic etc. post we should act like adults and just ignore people with other opinions.... or talk with them

Because over using the block function means we create a bubble around ourselves and that is not healthy either

So I found out today that Tumblr's block function sucks, as it only prevents them from directly seeing your stuff, but if someone they follow reblogs your stuff they can see it. Also appearently blocked users still still follow you. That's like, failiure to make a block funtion at the basic level.

I mean, personally I don't block like anybody. I think I've blocked one dude and that's cuz he was a creeper all up in my DMs so that even my SO was like "block him."

But that's because of how I run my blog. For instance - I'm not a sex worker so idc about having "content" stolen; everything I put up here is for fun. But I fully support a sex worker's right to block whomever they feel they need to.

The idea that blocking someone online is somehow "weak" feels to me like the tactics toxic people use to stop you from leaving.

Bc even irl there are times when you will drop people completely out of your life intentionally. You will have to remove yourself from them and you know, at least the internet makes it easy. I can't block the creeper on the bus the way I can online - but there are things I can do to remove myself from that person. I don't have to sit there and put up with it - I can change seats, or make a big scene to get them to go away. The block function online is simply easier.

If you get upset at people who do this - irl and online - you're probably the fkn reason people have to do it in the first place.

Self care

Don’t let anyone guilt you into not blocking people. It is your space and you should do what you makes you comfortable, and feel safe. There’s no rule that says you can’t block people just because they make you uncomfortable. It doesn’t make you weak. DO what you must for your mental and emotional health.
