Nebraska Family chase scene, after their truck gets stalled:
Vash dismounts from the thoma and drinks from his canteen before offering it to the bird, gently stroking its head while Meryl reprimands him.
"Okay," he sighed. "I might not be the bravest. But what's so terrible about being a little timid?"
The thoma loudly gurgles, headbutting Vash in the chest, demanding more attention. He tries to keep going, scratching the animal with renewed intensity.
Meryl holds her hands up off camera like 'what the heck?' because she knows the scene is already scrapped.
"Is fighting head-on always right?" Vash asks melodramatically.
The giant blue bird grumbles in a low tone coincidentally as if it were answering.
Vash bites back a laugh, trying desperately to continue. "It risks lives, and for what?"
The thoma belches. Vash loses it and proceeds to aggressively cuddle-scratch the underside of its neck. "Okay, no more sparkling water for you, Donut. Ya burpy birb."
