the suckers on the bottom took a long time to make but i really wanted to get all the little details to really make it feel more realistic (it also turned out bigger than i expected, it’s double the size of the average blue-ringed octopus)

With a split-second muscle contraction, the greater blue-ringed octopus can change the size and color of the namesake patterns on its skin for purposes of deception, camouflage, and signaling. The new devices will benefit from dynamically adjustable fluorescent and spectroscopic properties, ease of manufacturing, and potential for scaling to areas large enough to cover vehicles, billboards, and even buildings, the inventors say.

Favourite marine animal?

I’ve already answered with my #1 favorite, the whale shark! You can see that post here! But another one of my favorites is the Blue-Ringed Octopus or Hapalochlaena. 

The Blue Ringed Octopus is found in the Pacific and Indian Oceans, specifically in the tidal regions around Australia and Japan. Like most octopuses (yes, that's the proper plural term), these are bottom dwellers. They live in tidepools, coral reefs, in rock crevices, and under objects like shells and discarded cans and bottles.

The Blue-Ringed Octopus eats a variety of foods, from shrimp to small fish, but it is primarily a crab-eater. They're ambush predators, jumping on the crab's shell and using their beak to pierce through it; their saliva (known as tetrodotoxin) is incredibly venomous , enters the wound. It's considered one of the most potent venomous on Earth.

When stressed, their usually dark, blurred ring can change color to a bright, iridescent blue. This is because of chromatophores, which are cells that produce color and are typically used for camouflage.
