My Analysis of Color and its use in Spider-man Brand New Day (Part 1: yellow, white and black)
Yellow: The villain has this browner/yellower color in their scenes (and scenes in which they use mind control). And in the shot with the left eye, there is a more yellow lighting. Like maybe its associated with the arrogance, lack of accountability, and forgetting responsibility—such as neglecting your friends and neglecting yourself (cough cough Peter)
Perhaps thats why mj also has this more yellow/brown lighting in her apartment (here and at the party, especially prevalent with ned’s light being yellow beind him) because Peter has forgotten to take care of this side of himself (mentally and socially) and has forgotten that responsibility he owes to his friends… which leads me to white vs black.
White: white means bridging this gap of loneliness, making connection, and feeling whole again
Black: The color black for missing connection.
Mj is still looking—she wears black—she is feeling incomplete and doesn’t know why, but she knows it is because of spider-man, yk?? And same with his eyes. Same with ned’s shirt at the party and when peter watches their videos—he misses them. He feels that gaping hole in his chest, but he still has some connection to them through their social media videos (hence the small white logo/words)
white lighting when he crawls through mj’s window and is like “youre in danger”. White is also what she wears. White near the ending fight sequence when i assume hes fighting with all parts of himself feeling complete—white for his webbing
And i mean black could be fitting for the punisher because he is always missing his family and will never get that part of his life back—and his skull ensemble is white, so it could just be that doing what he does makes him feel whole again
Part two will dive into blue and red, and how it ties into to all three of these. Please read it actually—I couldn’t put it here because I ran out of how many photos I could put in one post.
