Miszmasz #78
Luty minął mi na chorowaniu i walczeniu z zapaleniem po wyrwaniu ósemki. Całkowicie wybiło mnie to z rytmu. (more…)

BEST OF 2016-ARTIST LISTS #40- AGATHA LAFAYE
Heavy pop artist AGATHA LAFAYE offers up a magical list of tunes that made her year!
Rihanna - Desperado
Rihanna released her incredibly hyped 8th studio album "Anti" this year, and as promised, the record is unlike any of Rihanna's previous efforts. "Desperado" is one of the high points of "Anti", serving us dark, brooding melodies and tip-toeing the line between experimental and modern mainstream pop. Rihanna's voice is full of character and control from the minute her opening lines drop: "Desperado/sittin' in an old Monte Carlo/a man whose heart is hollow". This song has balls!
Let's Eat Grandma - Eat Shiitake Mushrooms
Let's Eat Grandma is probably my favourite new act of 2016. They are an English duo made up of 17-year-old best friends Rosa Walton and Jenny Hollingworth. "Eat Shiitake Mushrooms" is the major standout of their debut record "I, Gemini". It is a perfect blend of whimsical, experimental, fairytale-esque dreampop that even features a rap breakdown! I get major Florence and the Machine vibes, as well as a pinch of Kate Bush. I hope they get big!
Angel Olsen - Shut Up, Kiss Me
"Shut Up, Kiss Me" is a catchy, upbeat, garage pop-rock tune from the awesomely talented Angel Olsen. Olsen delivers a spunky attitude, and fierce, feminine vocals that go hand-in-hand with her lyrics about unrequited love. Had this cool, retro-sounding song been released mid-90s, it easily would have been included in episodes of teen shows like Freaks and Geeks or My So-Called Life. This track is the perfect nostalgia-inducer that will transport you back to the days of pining after your high school crush.
Bat For Lashes- In God's House
"In God's House" comes from Bat For Lashes' latest record "The Bride", a concept album about a widowed bride who witnesses her fiancee killed on the way to the altar. "In God's House" is placed neatly at the beginning of the record to give us a dark, haunting opening-act to this twisted fairy-tale. It is paired with twinkling, whimsical synths and the ghostly vocals of Natasha Khan. The entire album is worth a listen, but "In God's House" remains an unforgettable highlight.
Charli XCX- Vroom Vroom
As a long-time fan of Charli XCX, I know that her releases can either be a hit or miss with me. That happens with an artist that switches it up as often as Charli does. That's why I was SO thrilled to hear the Sophie-produced 2016 "Vroom Vroom" EP, Charli's strongest and most interesting creation to date. The stand-out lead single "Vroom Vroom" features a bonkers synth, candy pop hooks that won't leave your head, and Charli's fun, energetic personality. I love that "Vroom Vroom" has inspired such polarizing reactions from music fans - you either think it's pop gold or you think it's rubbish. I think it's pop gold.
Kendrick Lamar- Untitled 07 A trippy, isolating instrumental layered with Lamar's genius flow and hooks make this track feel more like an experience than a song. Coming from the demo album "untitled unmastered.", this song easily beats any single released by more mainstream rappers this year. Lamar's delivery kills this beat. Available on Spotify Kali Uchis - Only Girl Kali Uchis has been described as the "West Coast Amy Winehouse" for her soulful vocals, and unique retro-inspired instrumentals. "Only Girl" plays a slightly minimalistic, R&B note that features Steve Lacy singing on the chorus. It's a fun song that I've had on repeat many times throughout 2016!
The Darcys - Lip Service The Darcys new record "Centerfold" just raised the bar for every contemporary artist whose making 80s-revival type music. "Lip Service" is one of the best songs on the record, with it's glassy synths, and strong, authentic vocals that drive the melodic pop hooks. This is the kind of quality music that seems to be missing from Top 40 today. Hopefully The Darcys can change the tide of hollow, unemotional synthpop into something of substance.
Niki & the Dove- Coconut Kiss
Niki & the Dove's sophomore record "Everybodys Heart is Broken Now" was one of my most anticipated of 2016 and it delivered. Malin Dahlstrom and Gustav Karlof are pop music masters, weaving together simple, catchy chords and fun, well-crafted hooks. My favourite song from the record has to be "Coconut Kiss" for it's tropical flavour and infectious chorus. It's the perfect song for the summertime, so save it to your Spotify playlists for Summer 2017!
Bo Rocha- Enough for You Full of unexpected melodic turns, Bo Rocha seduces the listener with her sweet, breathy vocals and catchy hooks. This song stands out, not only for it's sleek and modern production, but for the strength of it's songwriting. Bo sings about friends-with-benefits in melodies that flow magically and stay stuck in your head long after.

Unlike her previous output, Bo Rocha’s latest single sees her stepping out of the darkness.
Her most languid offering yet, ‘Real Kids’ is like one long, dreamy sigh with its soft drum machine shuffle and floating guitar strums, giving off some serious 90s pop vibes. It kinda reminds me of Texas’ ‘Say What You Want,’ a song I totally adored as a kid.
‘Real Kids’ is from Bo Rocha’s Hold My Gaze EP, out soon.
