“HONOR KILLED THE SAMOURAI”
Sorry Doloriel you're a dad now I don't make the rules
The Dirty Streets of Heaven - Tad Williams
This review is based on an advanced copy. Basically a noir detective novel featuring an angel advocate instead of an actual PI. It includes such staples as the weary veteran that can't help but try to do good, the love interest with some very bad connections, unsanctioned interviews/investigating, and lots of shoot outs. If you're interested in an almost PI with magical elements like curses and some discussion of the nature of the afterlife you're in for a treat. Though if you have any expectation for the romantic subplot to handled with respect I'd avoid this.
The third book in the Bobby Dollar series. A hardboiled detective story with angels and demons.
SPOILERS
San Judas, California. The sun is shining, birds are singing and Bobby Dollar is being threatened with bodily harm. The angel Doloriel, known as Bobby Dollar on earth has made powerful enemies in both Heaven and Hell.
He has to rescue his demon girlfriend Caz from the Archduke of Hell, Eligor and stop a powerful angel who wants to destroy him.
I jumped into the series with the third book so Caz is barely in the book. Her relationship with Bobby is shown as almost entirely physical. We don't see why Bobby would risk his life and soul for her.
The Amazons who help Bobby, Oxana and Halyana are intresting characters. Although there is a bit too much on how attractive they are and how skimpily dressed.
The monsters are creepy. Bobby's associates who get the least amount of time, Dr Gustibus and George the were-pig are the most intriguing.

One was for low tire pressure, which I attempted to resolve by putting more air in the tires. This was not affective. Another was that when it started to get cold a low oil light would…
