so yesterday i tried some 'beginner yoga' that turned into basically balancing my whole body weight on one hand and the opposite knee, kind of like a one handed pushup situation except farther to fall when i can't handle it anymore. wayyyy more intense than i was ready for and if this is beginner yoga i need someone to direct me to some sub-beginner yoga for people who lack upper body strength (and also working hamstrings but i more or less know how to compensate for that)
so i was kvetching about it to my coworker bc it was something new to talk about and i said "you know, these yoga ladies can do this no problem because they weigh half as much as me, so they have half as much weight to lift"
and she said that's bullshit because it's the same weight. she even quoted the whole "a pound of steel weighs the same as a pound of feathers" meme!
like am i misunderstanding how bodyweight affects these kinds of exercises? like i was clearly exaggerating when i said 'twice as much' but its gotta be noticably more, right?
who is dodging reality here?
you. a 250 pound person and a 125 pound person push up roughly the same amount
coworker. a 250 pound person pushes up more than a 125 pound person
