Save the New Stargate Series: Let Martin Gero Build the Future of the Franchise!
So I already hated Amazon but now even moreso.
A friend of mine got a job as a driver for them. After finishing training she was told no breaks at all during her 10+ hour shifts.
No lunch. No stopping to use the restroom anywhere (even for her cycle to change sanitary stuff)
She brought this up with HR and they flat-out told her yea due to you bringing this up as an issue we're letting you go.
Wtf Amazon? What is your actual problem? It still baffles me that there is no federal/state laws regarding breaks and that they're apparently only given by gracious companies. Working without being able to eat or relieve yourself is literally just, inhumane.
Do you use audiobook apps other than audible? If so, what do you use? I am in the process to stop using Amazon for books and audiobooks, and exploring other options, like bookshop.org and digital libraries (speaking of which, do you have a favorite ebook library and can you still use kindle? I'm not as tech savvy as I like to be 😅 and often times prefer hardcopies)
But audiobooks are important for me cause I really enjoy listening and it's a wonderful exercise for me as a deaf person. And I want to support the authors directly without Amazon being shitty to them. If you have an app you recommend or have the time to talk to me about how audiobooks via digital libraries work (I am, unfortunately, having a major mental block about it for some reason)
I would greatly appreciate it!
Why Amazon Stinks
So on January 10th, I was super excited because John Green, my favourite author, had a new book coming out. I'd pre-ordered it in August because he was going to sign every copy of the first print (150 000 copies) and pre-ordering basically guaranteed you were going to have a signed copy.
However, I ran to my mailbox on January 10th only to be disappointed by the fact that my book wasn't there. Tracking the package online later that day showed me that my book hadn't even been shipped yet.
I just got it today, a whole week later, and I was pretty stoked about it. When I opened the book, I was sorely disappointed again that it wasn't signed. Now, I'm not mad at John at all, because I know this isn't his fault. In fact, amazon.ca, .uk and .de pre-orders all have the same problem.
Get your shit together, Amazon.
