Assassins fic (How I'd end my book if I ever wrote one) - "He knows this is the end because all he can think of, is her"
B's reached the end of his life. He knows this with surety.
Well, it's not because he's writhing in pain, unable to staunch the blood flowing from his chest. It's not because there seems to be more blood pooled around him than what's left in his body. It's not because he's in a dark alleyway and your quintessential fucking villain is slowly approaching him for the killing blow..
He knows this is the end because all he can think of, is her.
Her. A's face envelops his thoughts. Her evil laugh, her low voice, the way her features soften under the moonlight.
The heavy steps stop. A weapon is raised, casting a black shadow over his broken body.
'I'll never forgive you'. The last words she'd ever said to him.
'Don't,' he whispers, voice skimming over the cobblestones, reaching no one.
The killing blow never comes.
