I'm in a lot of book groups on Facebook. And there is a common opinion: folding pages is bad, breaking spines is bad.
But I love books that have been obviously read, and loved.
My favourite book is so worn, you can tell my favourite chapter based on how bent the spine is at that section. I love buying 2nd hand books, because to me there is nothing more beautiful than someone loving a book.

PLANNING 9/9/22 - ‘THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COIN - THE QUEEN, THE DRESSER AND THE WARDROBE’ - ANGELA KELLY
I was planning to use this for the AUTMN EQUINOX QUOTE OF THE WEEK but the death of the Queen has stopped it. My idea was to dress up as the Queen in the above photo taken for the book ‘Keepers: the ancient offices of Britain’. The link is the time of year and the landscape. My plan was to pose at the equinox sunrise on Basing Common. The Queen is wearing the Thistle Gown and Vladimir Tiara in a Balmoral setting during her annual late summer visit.
My friend in amateur dramatics only picked up the props on Wednesday. The Queen died at Balmoral on Thursday.
We have taken photographs just for the record.

***** PLANNING 30/8/22 - ‘THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COIN - THE QUEEN, THE DRESSER AND THE WARDROBE’ - ANGELA KELLY
FOR THE AUTUMN EQUINOX QUOTE OF THE WEEK
This year I am doing a QUOTE OF THE WEEK for each season. A book written by the Queen’s dresser Angela Kelly is an unusual choice but I don’t have anything else planned and I would like to use this book sooner rather than later because it was loaned to me by a book group member.
My friend lent me this book at our meeting following the QUEEN’S PLATINUM JUBILEE QUOTE OF THE WEEK. I appreciate the thought so would like to acknowledge this by using her book for another occasion.
Angela Kelly has a paragraph on the seasons so I can take her comments on autumn as a starting point:
‘Autumn is cooler; and I introduce medium to heavier fabrics, such as wools, cashmere and double crepes with a mellower colour palette.’ (Kelly, 2019, p.75).
This book is incredibly lush with magnificent photographs and I have two further ideas: the ‘Keepers: the ancient offices of Britain’ book photograph of the Queen in the ‘thistle gown’ at Balmoral and the 2010 state visit to Nova Scotia, including the First Nations Mi’kmaq tribe (‘The Dawn People’).
‘KEEPERS: THE ANCIENT OFFICES OF BRITAIN’

pp.172-3.

‘THE DAWN PEOPLE’

PLANNING 23/8/22 - ‘TWO NIGHTS IN LISBON’ - CHRIS PAVONE
FOR GOODBYE PORTUGAL QUOTE OF THE WEEK IN NOVEMBER
I am getting to the end of GOODBYE EUROPE QUOTE OF THE WEEK - only Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden to go!? I do them once a month so at this rate won’t be finishing until next April (I am not planning one in December).
One of my book group friends has just been on holiday to Portugal. When I heard that she was going I had just bought ‘Two Nights in Lisbon’ by Chris Pavone so I read it in preparation and then requested holiday snaps.
(Chris Pavone’s ‘‘The Expats’ was GOODBYE LUXEMBOURG).
My friend has spent 7 nights in Balaia on the Algarve.
https://www.tui.co.uk/destinations/europe/portugal/the-algarve/balaia/holidays-balaia.html I am probably going to use a ‘good morning’ quote so I requested some good morning photos. Reading Pavone and never having been to Portugal, I was interested to discover Portugal’s blue tiles. Therefore I requested blue tile photos too.

I won’t be doing GOODBYE PORTUGAL until November so these should cheer us up.

Excellent ‘Portugal’.
This ‘B’ is for book club … which is impressive and intriguing. Why? How does she know?
