Depiction of serious topics in writing
If you write a story I don't believe it to be necessary to write out entire rape, self harm scenes and such. For the lack of better words, it makes the whole act seems like something sensational rather than the terrible act that it really is. It isnt some weird plot device, it shouldn't be.
And if necessary I'd rather authors refer to such scenes or describe it in two lines rather than a whole 5 pages. I'm not telling authors to not write about people struggling with those tough issues, I'm just asking them to handle it with care. Something I've seen a lot of books to be lacking nowadays.
You can write a good story without feeling the need to extremely upset an entire audience and if you can't write a good story/set a mood without writing in a 5 page rape scene or something like that, then it likely isn't that good of a story at all.
Also make trigger warnings a mandatory thing with the synopsis would you, not everyone is aware of the fact those are easy to find online.
