Serpentine is now live on Kickstarter!
This collection of poems by Tara K. Shepersky features loads of full-page watercolor illustrations by me and gorgeous printing from our publisher, Bored Wolves. (You can even grab our first collaboration, Tell the Turning, as part of the campaign.)
The book is a love letter to a particular river in Northern California, and to Tara's peregrinations from north to south along various highways and byways over the course of her lifetime. Her work is contemplative, rich, tender, and full of love. I'm so excited for people to read it.
You can see some of the pieces I've completed so far up above (plus that otter painting I already shared, which will be a little bookmark). The sketch below is our current pass at the cover.
Once again: HERE'S THAT KICKSTARTER LINK.
We've met our goal, but there's still two more days to preorder Serpentine! Tara Shepersky has written a gorgeous collection of poems that will transport you to the landscapes she has loved for a lifetime. I feel very lucky to be illustrating this book. Bored Wolves will be bringing this volume to print with the same stellar quality as our first collaboration, Tell the Turning. Come join us in making something beautiful!
Stefan Lorenzutti is an American poet living with his family in a small house in the mountains of Poland, from which he and his wife run their Bored Wolves publishing imprint. From my first encounter, I was enchanted with their books– simple, beautiful, elegant, with none of the ponderous opacity that makes up so much contemporary poetry. A few years ago, Stefan and I collaborated on a print called “Whiz,” in which I adapted a short poem of his into comics form. It worked so well, we decided to do it twelve more times! The Stoneware Jug collects 13 comics-poems (including Whiz), that focus on the seasonal, mundane-but-transcendent experiences of domestic life: baking, laundry, ice. Fans of King-Cat will, I think, enjoy this very much. 28 pages, black ink on lovely soft paper, saddle-stitched, 7.875″ x 5.5″ (Co-Published by Nieves Books/Bored Wolves/Spit and a Half)
