Cordell Walker x Alec Mcdowell
I don't know why there's a huge thing in the fandom of, "Magnus is clearly the bottom because Alec isn't coy and submissive and Magnus isn't a dom"
I always headcanoned Alec as the bottom since that sex scene where he flipped them around while they were falling, so he would land beneath Magnus, and then Magnus quickly looks up, searching his eyes. It gives off power bottom energy, which would explain why he said, "You don't have to worry. I want this." I remember when that scene came out and everyone saw it as "coercive" and I just remember thinking, "This is obviously Alec consenting to be the bottom, not pushing Magnus into bottoming for him"
Not to mention how Alec is explicitly set up as juvenile, haughty, and immature in the books in contrast to Magnus being older, wiser, more experienced, and exasperated, which becomes a repeated point of conflict between them
I spent years not reading Malec fanfiction, so maybe this came as a shock to me, but it's weird that there's this thing in fandom where Alec's personality has to be completely overhauled for him to be the bottom. Maybe it's because I was exposed to stuff like Brokeback Mountain, growing up, but it just seems so strange to me that bottom has to mean feminine and weak. One of my favourite parts of their dynamic is how Magnus is more effeminate, outwardly queer-coded, and Eastern, but Alec is dying to get under him and is flustered and impressed by him. Way back when the books first came out, I saw this be referred to as the classic immortal erastes and mortal eromenos trope and a lot of fanfiction bought into the idea that Magnus was the top because he was cooler and had his own place (no, really).
It's weird that people are now saying, "Alec can't be the bottom because he's taller and he's not a blushing virgin." I mean, yeah, that's the point. It's called power bottoming for a reason lmao
I mean, I don't really care. People do whatever they want and I'm not pressed, but I've definitely been thinking about it
