how do you feel about elon musk’s “brain chip to cure autism and schizophrenia/mental illness” idea? any thoughts?
Reuters reports that Neuralink has killed roughly 1,500 animals since 2018. As result the company is currently under federal probe, which was opened in recent months by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Inspector General at the request of a federal prosecutor. The probe, one of the sources said, focuses on violations of the Animal Welfare Act.
Synchron launched human trials in 2019 in Melbourne, Australia. Synchron’s Stentrode system was implanted in the trial’s first participant at Mount Sinai West hospital in New York City in July of 2022.
Elon Musk approached Synchron about a potential investment in Neuralink. Synchron, which is based in the New York City borough of Brooklyn, is ahead of Neuralink in the process to win regulatory clearance for its devices.
To answer your question, autism is considered a developmental disorder not a brain disease. The deficit is brain-wide. These neural differences often develop over the course of years, changing the inherent structure of a person's brain, and making it impossible to tweak or "solve" anything with a machine.
As for the treatment of other mental health issues. Brain implants have been tested and are in use.

I'm glad brain computers likely won't be available within my lifespan. I do not want to be endlessly connected. I do not want to be available at all hours of the day. I do not want to be able to post straight from my brain. I do not want companies in my head, learning from my thoughts and developing products and advertising based on data collected from my mind. I do not want to have a way to be completely disconnected from reality within a thoughts reach. as much as it sucks monkey shit, I want and need the real world around me.
I hate the idea of the clones’ brain chips not just taking away their interpretation and choice, but turning everything they fought for throughout the movies and shows, to be human, back into being ‘meat machines’ like they had been viewed previously. But....
If they bring Cody back in Bad Batch and the question of why he attacked/’killed’ Obi-Wan is brought up, then this scene is the way to do it. (Picard is Cody, Robert is Rex or Hunter or something).
The clip was not created by me. It’s from Star Trek the Next Generation. I don’t remember the episode title or season number off the top of my head but if you want to know I’ll look it up. All I can say is that either Star Trek or clone troopers, this scene destroys me every time with its bittersweetness. T_T

[AN: I have lived that nightmare]
Picture if you will, a world divided in two. Strictly regimented by gender roles that only existed in a handful of halcyon days in certain areas of the united states. The people who made it wanted to return to those days of glory before realising that such glory was unsustainable.
Because the only endorsed science was the science everyone could understand at a lies-to-children level, the bigger brains were forced to make the world adhere to the 'glorious' model. Keep in mind that these alleged glory days only had room for one demographic at the top. They keep the 'poindexters' around because they're useful in maintaining a solid grip on the centre.
For some, it is paradise. For others, it is a nightmare. Welcome to Planet Stepford. Please dress according to your assigned gender binary. Also, if that binary ends in the female, you'll also need this extensive manual of expected behaviour. It is, after all, a man's world.
