Me crying about my own fic while writing it
If I had a nickel every time I fell in love with a middle-aged fictional man who got his autonomy ripped away from him while having his body weaponized against his will simply due to being in the wrong place at the wrong time, I'd have two nickel which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice.
I am wishing the five people keeping the Jalim fandom alive in 2025 a very happy you are doing god's work
If I got a nickel every time I got hooked on a drama about a low status girl at the chinese emperor's palace who'll eventuall end up stepping onto her royal bestie's shoulder with her dirty ass feet to climb a wall, I had two nickel which isn't a lot but still weird it happened twice
Here's my meme collection to the latest BG3 DnD session, you're welcome
Fictional men who never learned how to deal with trauma, guilt or fear so they settled for hate and violence instead but are willing to become a better version of themselves for that one person who continuously shoves care and understanding down their throats until they realize that they too are deserving of love and it actually does feel kinda nice
In this essay I will-
Sometimes you read a fanfic that is written SO unimaginably well with the phrasing feeling like this person definitely absolutely knew what they were doing.
And sometimes you read something that is written rather simple, the author obviously kinda new to writing and it's not all that fancily phrased and yet it just tickles the right brain wrinkles, leaving you like you've just read an absolute masterpiece.
And I think this is so beautiful and also important to acknowledge.
Fanfics are creations of pure passion and love and joy and sometimes people are "good" at it and sometimes people are less "good" at it just like it is with anything else really but despite that, their work is still carrying the same passion and love and joy.
And that always makes me think of that one post saying smth about how engaging with fandom is rewiring your brain about what is considered "good" at all and it is true.
Bc I've read such a fantastically written fic two days ago and then last night I read one pretty simply written, not too fancy etc and you can take a guess which of these hit me emotionally way harder than the other.
In the end it's not about skill but about the emotions a story conveys and what they stirr within your brain (or heart) and I am still trying to learn that for myself and my own writing
I really like how they decided to give Leon his dumbass humor from RE4 on after being relatively unfunny in RE2 - heavily implying that he uses silly jokes as a coping mechanism to somehow ease the heaviness of a situation.
Unfortunately this is a very common occurence in people with Depession or some form of trauma (or both), which only underlines how deeply affected by everything that happened he really is.
I do love a good psychological depth in a character. I especially like a good relatable trauma response in a character.
