Superman and the Authority #4 - Oh No, Brainiac Bought a Suit!
And so, this series comes to a weirdly abrupt stop. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed this issue, but it seemed like it was rushing to the end after the previous few issues were more based around gradual set-up?
And, yeah, the Ultra-Humanite was technically one of the first supervillains that Clark faced way, way back in the 1940s, before be gradually became more of a JSA thing.
John Byrne in his Elseworld story Superman & Batman: Generations actually acknowledged how weird it was that Clark had two separate bald mad scientists in his rogues gallery by revealing that the Ultrahumanite had at some point in the past hijacked Luthor’s body and had spent the subsequent decades impersonating him.
Also, a surprise cameo!
Hey, it’s Coldcast! Who apparently was hired to join the team last minute, so he didn’t know that he’d be on the same team as a literal neo-nazi (Coldcast mentions how the white supremacist wasn’t happy he was there either), with the intention of recapturing Manchester Black and turning him in to the authorities again.
...Presuming that the JLElite wasn’t a thing in this new version of the DCU, or him and Vera Black parted ways at some point. Either way, Cass will probably not disappointed in Coldcast getting in on his nonsense.
