I have a silly question! ✋

Is it possible to be a guardian and a prodigy at the same time?

I imagine you have to have a high intelligence stat to be a prodigy, and the guardian path relies more on strength ofc, but I just thought it’d be an interesting path.

Not silly at all! Unfortunately, Prodigy is the one Mark that wouldn’t work well for a MC. That’s mostly because it would make storytelling difficult. I spoke about it here. Then, Navaarians aren’t capable of holding more than one Mark. It would be too much of a mental/physical burden! Even Brakkus’ children could only carry one each. It would be neat though!

Question about Em; so their family always produces a single marked prodigy every generation. Does this mean any additional children are unmarked, regardless of who the other parent was? What if Em married someone who was royal or from a family that generally produced multiple marked children every generation?

Oh! Yes, any first child with Em is guaranteed to be a Prodigy and all additional will be unmarked. The only way that could maybe change is if Em married into Brakkus’ direct line where every child they produce is marked. No one really knows how that would affect the Preval line and so the Prevals have very deliberately avoided any mixing with the royal family as a precaution.

It was Brakkus’ second born that came to the conclusion that the most effective way to bridge the gap between the royal family (who, at the time, was made up of a God and his Demi-god children) and Navaaria’s human society was to integrate their local leaders into the new power structure. This is how the noble houses that now make up the council were initially formed. They were born from admired Navaarian guides, protectors, mentors and paragons. They were also the first Navaarians to be blessed with marks of their own. Though now, Brakkus’ blessings come by chance, the noble houses were granted theirs directly, when Brakkus was still mortal and “living.” Their blessings were more fine tuned and specific. It was Brakkus’ intent that each noble house have a generational mark that would be tied to the maintenance of their house and the work that it does.

A prodigy’s ability is invaluable to the Prodigier’s work. And so, the Preval line has always and will always have a prodigy heir.

Hello I love your writing! But first I feel the need to apologize to Onas that while on his route my reserved air mage MC has decided that Emryr is now her slightly annoying older sibling that she is exasperated by but is deeply fond of lol. I wonder how they both feel about that.

I was curious about the differences between the Houses if it's just flavor text and their history.

For the Houses, they’re meant to represent Brakkus and his triplets. Brakkus is the beginning of Navaaria’s revival. Brakkus restructured the climate and landscape, returned order and began the origins of the Marked—House of Dawn.

Tal is the first born Prodigy, the one who had the vision for Navaaria and dreamt of its development and growth. Tal is responsible for industry, the structure of society and the role of Marked within it —House of Dreams.

Talyn is the second born Mage and the one who mediated the relationship between unmarked and Marked. Talyn established the nobility, was responsible for the council, its role and the family lines assigned to each sector—House of Kindred.

Taar is the third born Guardian and the heart and vigor of the three. The one who guided those newly gifted with their Marks, taught them the responsibility of having them and created the factions—House of Courage.

Speaking of the destiny potion... Since Marked themselves can't have more than one affinity, did Brakkus have all of them? None? Or just the elemental ones? Considering that being Marked and all that it entails is due to him™.

Oh, yes! He did/does. As the God of balance, he embodies every affinity and trait of the marked. The elemental affinities, light/dark affinities, and every trait unique to each mark—they all come from him. Though he chooses to share his power with the Navaarians, he only gives them so much. No one—not even his three children—could contain more than one affinity or mark and so he divides out his magic in slivers. His power is meant to be shouldered amongst all marked and so they balance it out together.

Are the Church and the Crown separate institutions or one in the same? From what we've seen, the Church has a good amount of independence from governmental affairs, but the ruler is a descendant of Brakus (Hope that's right) so I could definitely see something like a theocratic monarchy or something similar.

They’re separate! The responsibility of the clergy is only to give revealing ceremonies and record the Marked as it can only be done through divination magic. What really prevented Navaaria from becoming a true theocratic monarchy is that Brakkus made himself mortal and shared his gifts. It changed the dynamic. He didn’t want to be worshipped as a higher being, but instead brought himself to the level of humanity with the purpose of aiding it. Because of that, Marks are seen not as a blessing or reward for the faithful, but as a gift meant to serve the people of Navaaria.
