Hey guys. SInce I've been asking you to share your story, I thought I would go ahead and share mine too.
I grew up being the only girl in the family. While my parents were happy, and pushed me to be their "little princess" I grew up around boys who taught me that all that mattered was having fun, getting dirty, and being well a boy.
I was in a stuggle between what I wanted to be- that girl that played with the boys, ripped her dress, and loved soccer- and what my parents wanted me to be- a little girl that only played barbies, sat with her feet crossed and wore dresses. That wasn't me. I didn't like dresses, they're extremely uncomfortable!I conformed to what they wanted, and I regret everyday spent being someone that I wasn't.
Now I'm a high school senior, and I've spent 5 years with amazing bestfriend that was the first to accept me, because she like me hated dresses. Some days i'll wear my snapback, some jordans and an oversized hoodie(sure i still get taunted about it). The next I might wear a skirt make up and sandals. These two scenarios are me. I am not the 100% "girly girl" or the 100% "tomboy". And that's okay, because I learned that it doesn't have to be one certain way. I don't have to stay inside these barriers.
And neither do you! Sometimes it's evenn our own family that judges us. But, I say have hope, one day you will encounter an amazing best friend that like mine, accepts you for who YOU want to be. But, the first and most important is accepting yourself.
I broke the barriers in my life will you break yours?
