The Gabby Petitio documentary on Netflix was only 3 episodes, but I really couldn't get past the first one.

Watching all of that footage of them, seeing the sick way he looked at her, I couldn't keep watching.

Then, the footage of when the cops stopped their van, and she was trying to make herself so small to fit into what he wanted her to be, and her saying "I'm calm, I'm always calm", broke my heart.

Also, did they really have to invite Brian's friend to speak on the documentary? I literally couldn't stomach seeing her smiling while talking about him like he was some great person and that she was reminiscing on their time together. And the way she started by saying he was in love with her first was absolutely vile.

Gabby Petito era una joven de 22 años que desapareció a finales de agosto del 2021 mientras estaba viviendo en una furgoneta camperizada con su novio, a unos 3200 km de la casa de sus padres en Nueva York.

Sus padres denunciaron su desaparición el 11 de septiembre del 2021 después de más de 10 días sin saber nada de ella. Después de que Brian Laundrie volviera a casa con la van de Gabby el día 1 de septiembre.

En el documental se nos muestra como, sobre el 12 de agosto del 2021, varias personas denunciaron una disputa doméstica que vieron en la calle entre Gabby y su prometido Brian. En esta denuncia los testigos aseguraban que Brian estaba agrediendo a Petito en la calle sin ningún pudor. Cuando la policía los detuvo, ambos tenían marcas en sus caras: como arañazos y magulladuras, pero al encontrarse Brian sereno y Gabby con un ataque de ansiedad y debido a la excusas expuestas por ambos, la policía creyó que la víctima era Brian Laundrie.

Lo cierto es que era bastante común que cuando ambos discutían Brian cogiera la camper y se fuera dejándola tirada, daba igual a donde se encontraran, y por ello Gabby se mostraba ansiosa cuando discutían, ya que tenía que él la dejara tirada sin nada lejos de sus padres.

"No se presentaron cargos y la policía dispuso que Laundrie pasara una noche en un hotel y que Petito se quedara en la furgoneta, con el fin de separar a los dos después de caracterizar el incidente como una crisis de salud mental y emocional en lugar de una agresión doméstica. En los siguientes días, dejaron Moab y viajaron 370 km hasta Salt Lake City."

En el documental se hace hincapié en las fechas, ya que son determinantes para vislumbrar las intenciones de Brian y de su familia una vez Gabby "desapareció".

Brian viajó a Florida ya que tenía alquilado un trastero que tenía que vaciar porque sino se desharían de sus cosas. Por lo que Gabby se quedó sola, eso fue el 19 de agosto. En ese tiempo Gabby habló con su exnovio Jackson y le dijo que tenía planes de terminar su relación con Brian, habían estado viajando por más de un mes en la camper y las discusiones ya eran diarias (fue escueta en añadir nada más).

El 22 de agosto regresó Brian y continuaron su viaje, el 25 de agosto Gabby y su madre hablaron por ultima vez por Facetime, y les dijo que habían llegado al parque nacional Grand Teton. Ese día también subió su ultimo post a Instagram.

El 27 de agosto las cámaras de seguridad los vieron entrando en unos grandes almacenes siendo este el ultimo momento con grabaciones de Gabby. Gracias a la investigación se supo que ese día a las 20:30h Gabby aún seguia con vida ya que estuvo pasando los archivos de la cámara al ordenador de forma normal, con sus propias rutinas.

El 28 de agosto Brian Laundrie se puso en contacto con sus padres y viajo haciendo autostop, alejándose de Grand Teton, y haciendo diversas fotografías en su ruta, y enviándole mensajes de texto a Gabby Petito que ella nunca recibió. Aquí Brian ya estaba montando su coartada, ya que en la investigación se supo que en la llamada le dijo a sus padres que contactaran con un abogado.

El 30 de agosto Brian volvió a Grand Teton y volvió solo a Florida parando para repostar y pagando con las tarjetas de Gabby Petito, además de hacerse una transferencia bancaria con un concepto como despedida desde el móvil de Petito. En la investigación se demostró que el móvil de Petito no se activó hasta que Brian volvió a la camper y que desde entonces los mensajes eran simultáneos entre los dos teléfonos en la misma zona, por lo que Brian estaba usando el móvil de la chica para organizar una coartada en forma de mensajes de texto, fingiendo que Gabby le daba la furgoneta y se marchaba sola.

"Los mensajes de texto también continuaron enviándose desde el móvil de Petito a su madre hasta el 30 de agosto, aunque su autenticidad está en cuestionamiento."

Brian regresó a su casa en Florida con la furgoneta pero sin Gabby el 1 de septiembre. La familia de Petito decidió denunciar la desaparición el 11 de septiembre después de no tener más noticias ni de Gabby, ni de Brian, ni de la familia Laundrie. Cuando la policía llegó a casa de la familia de Brian estos dijeron que no iban a dar declaraciones y lo unico que podían decir es que Brian se encontraba en casa, pero que no sabían nada de Gabby Petito. Por lo que la policía requisó la furgoneta al encontrarse solo a nombre de la joven desaparecida.

El 17 de septiembre Brian Laundrie desapareció sin dejar rastro de su casa en Florida.

"Durante la investigación Laundrie ejerció su derecho constitucional a no hablar con la policía mientras la investigación estaba en curso. Contrató a un abogado y se le consideró una persona de interés en el caso. Sus padres han negado el contacto con las fuerzas del orden y con la familia Petito, y en su lugar han dirigido todo contacto a través del abogado de la familia, que le aconsejó a Laundrie que se negase a declarar."

Mientras los padres de Brian eran tan flexibles con él que intentaron pasar tiempo de calidad con su hijo esperando que confesara o bien que se desentendiera emocionalmente del revuelo que había provocado la desaparición de Gabby.

El 19 de septiembre se encontró dentro de Grand Teton el cadáver de Gabby Petito gracias al revuelo causado en redes, y donde muchas personas revisaron su cámaras para poder establecer una cronología, así pasó con otra familia de Campers que se encontraban allí y encontraron en los brutos de su cámara donde estaba la furgoneta de Gabby aparcada en Grand Teton. Los investigadores buscaron por la zona hasta dar con ella. Con lo que quedaba de ella.

El examen forense dictaminó que Gabby Petito había muerto por estrangulamiento, al dictaminarse el homicidio se levantó una orden de búsqueda y captura contra Brian.

En casa de los Laundrie se encontró una carta que la madre de Brian le había escrito al propio Brian titulada "quemar después de leer" donde aseguraba que lo amaba por encima de todas las cosas y que si había que ocultar un cadáver ella lo ayudaría, así como si acababa en prisión, ella haría todo lo posible por sacarlo de allí.

Así se demostró ya que pagaron a un abogado 25.000 dólares para que asesorara y defendiera a su hijo, en lo que se supone que él había confesado el homicidio de su prometida.

La búsqueda de Brian Laundrie dio con su coche en uno de sus lugares favoritos Myakkahatchee Creek Enviromental Park. Al ser multados los Laundrie se llevaron el coche, pero no denunciaron la desaparición de su hijo, esperando que este regresara a casa sano y salvo. Pero, el 20 de octubre se montó un dispositivo para encontrar a Laundrie en el Creek Park.

Allí fueron los propios padres de Brian Laundrie quien encontraron los restos óseos y las pertenencias de su hijo, sabiendo de sobra en que zonas le gustaba a su hijo acampar o realizar senderismo. El parque había estado clausurado por inundaciones y el primer día de la apertura fue cuando fueron en su búsqueda.

"Se descubrieron artículos pertenecientes a Laundrie, así como restos humanos, y se entregaron a las fuerzas del orden, y el parque se cerró después de haber sido reabierto el día anterior. Después de un análisis, las autoridades confirmaron a las agencias de noticias estadounidenses que los restos eran de Laundrie el 21 de octubre."

Después de la autopsia realizada al cuerpo de Laundrie, la policía confirmó el 23 de noviembre de 2021, que la causa de su muerte, fue que se había suicidado con un disparo en la cabeza.

Entre sus pertenencias había un bloc donde había escrito diferentes cartas de despedida para sus familiares y un relato, poco verosímil con la autopsia de su prometida, donde aseguró que la muerte de Gabby fue accidental ya que ella se cayó y le pidió que acabara con sus sufrimiento.

Decidió acabar así con su vida y no decirle nada a nadie para que su cuerpo se pudriera tal y como estaban deseando en las calles la familia y las personas que querían a Gabby Petito, un señor narcisista hasta el final.

Amigos y familiares de la pareja se mostraron consternados ante lo que parecía una pareja perfecta, eternamente enamorados, dispuestos a todo el uno por el otro, pero la realidad era bastante cruel.

A lo largo de la investigación se demostró que ambos estaban envueltos en una relación tóxica donde Brian vivía en constante alerta por su Gabby lo abandonaba por lo que montaba todo tipo de escenas para que ella no se fuera con su familia o amigos, aislándola cada vez más, para tenerla solo para él.

No importan cuando lucharon los dos por mantener a flote su relación y su sueño de viajar por Estados Unidos para documentar su vida, lo cierto es que la historia se truncó pronto.

Gabby había tenido varios trabajos poco cualificados para poder pagar su pequeña furgoneta, y empezar su sueño. Brian no estaba muy convencido de este tipo de vida, mostrándose todo el rato en redes, pero a ambos les apasionaba el senderismo, viajar y acampar y con lo poco que ahorraron decidieron empezar su viaje.

La distancia entre ambos se fue haciendo más grande cuando Brian apenas participaba en la vida que ella quería construir dentro de las redes, mostrándose esquivo y de mal humor. Supongo que lo que empezó como una idea perfecta para tenerla solo para él se fue quebrando cuando se dieron cuenta de que no iban en la misma dirección y el terror que le causaba a Brian ser abandonado se materializaría esa misma noche del 29 de agosto cuando ella le diría que la relación se acababa ahi, por eso la estranguló y ocultó su cadáver.

A partir de ese momento Brian empezó a construir su coartada para no acabar con los huesos en la cárcel, pero supongo que no se pensaba que el caso se haría tan viral que nadie miraría a otro lado.

Por su parte los padres de Brian aseguran que cuando este les llamó el 20 de agosto les dijo que Gabby se había ido y que necesitaba un abogado porque iba a volver a Florida, pero lo cierto es que la familia de la chica los denunció por dolor y sufrimiento, y ganaron el juicio otorgando US$ 3 millones a la madre de Petito como administradora del patrimonio de su hija.

Los padres de Laundrie aseguran que Brian le dijo repetidamente a su padre: “Gabby se ha ido”, pero nunca dijo que hubiera matado a Petito, dijo Christopher Laundrie. Su hijo le pidió ayuda, diciendo que tal vez necesitaba un abogado. “Le pregunté por qué. No quiso decírmelo”.

Cuando se le preguntó a qué creía que se refería su hijo cuando dijo que Petito “se había ido”, Roberta Laundrie dijo que se le pasaron por la cabeza varias posibilidades, entre ellas que la pareja se hubiera peleado y que Petito estuviera pensando en presentar cargos.

Por lo que se sobrentiende que cuando Brian volvió a casa, se lo contara o no a sus padres, estos pudieron intuir que era posible que si Gabby no se había puesto en contacto con su familia en todo ese tiempo es porque su hijo habría acabado con su vida. Pero esperando que el cuerpo de Petito no fuera encontrado o que cuando lo hicieran ya no quedaran pruebas decidieron vivir su vida, y cuidar de su hijo. Aunque esto implicara el sufrimiento y dolor de la familia de Gabby Petito. Buscaron, desde el egoismo que las aguas se calmaran en beneficio de su hijo.

Por esto cuando él afirmó querer ir a pasar unos días lejos de la ciudad de acampada sus padres no se lo impidieron, de hecho ni siquiera sabían si se iba a deshacer de pruebas o a escaparse de la ley, por eso no denunciaron su desaparición hasta que la policía levantó la orden de búsqueda y captura en contra de él. Supongo que su madre, devota cristiana no pensaría que su hijo se suicidaría por los remordimientos que le dio por la presión mediática y ver a los padres de la joven pelear por encontrarla.

Brian Laundrie siempre fue un pequeño hombrecillo cobarde, acomplejado por su baja autoestima, manipulador y egocéntrico, que cuando su relación estaba apunto de terminar decidió asesinar a su pareja antes de asumir que era imposible continuar con esa relación.

Her and her boyfriend were one of those van-life influencers (live in vans, travel the world in them, blog their travels, go on adventures basically, to simplify the style) and they were on a road trip and apparently got into an altercation (allegedly she had a mental health crisis) and she disappeared a week after.

He came back home alone and won't disclose anything about her, no one knows where she is, he doesn't want to cooperate with the police nor talk to her family, he got himself a fancy lawyer and is staying mum.

Because of his suspicious actions, there's been speculation that he left her somewhere (where she could've died of exposure), or harmed her or done something else to her, and most people who know her think he's hiding something. His behavior is ridiculously suspicious.

Brian Laundrie remains innocent until proven guilty. However, what is most upsetting in the Gabby Petito case isn’t that she died (which is upsetting), it’s that this happens to women, every fucking day, of every fucking year, and that it is so engrained in our psyches that we’re inclined to believe he did it without proof or trial because we’ve seen it before. It happens to blonde, pretty, white women, to ugly women, to young women, to old women, to black women, to poor women, to rich women because domestic abuse is scattered across every fucking inch of our society. Because men kill women. And, this isn’t a “US case”, it’s an across the world case. And, now, people look at the guy who drove her van back to his parents’ house while she was lying dead in a ditch and say: “of course, it’s him” not because he’s been convicted in a trial but because statistically, it is him.

And that’s the most upsetting thing in this case, the existence of that statistic.

A Timeline of the Gabby Petito Case

June 2021

Petito and Laundrie embark on a cross-country trip. They planned to travel in Petito's white Ford van to the West Coast and visit state and national parks across the western United States. Petito had been excited to share her journey with her family and others on social media and maintained regular contact with her family members during her travels; however, that communication abruptly stopped around the end of August.

August 12, 2021

Moab, Utah, police have an encounter with the couple on August 12, where officers describe them as having "engaged in some sort of altercation." Although the two are described as getting into a physical fight following an argument, "both the male and female reported they are in love and engaged to be married and desperately didn't wish to see anyone charged with a crime," a report from officer Eric Pratt says.  At the officers' suggestion, the couple separated for the night, according to the report, which describes Petito as "confused and emotional."  “After evaluating the totality of the circumstances, I do not believe the situation escalated to the level of a domestic assault as much as that of a mental health crisis," officer Daniel Robbins writes in the report. No charges are filed. The couple each had their own cell phones in case of emergency, the report adds. In a 911 audio recording from that day provided by the Grand County Sheriff's Office, a caller tells dispatch he wanted to report a domestic dispute and described a white van with a Florida license plate. The caller said as they were driving by, "the gentleman was slapping the girl. "Then we stopped," the caller added. "They ran up and down the sidewalk. He proceeded to hit her, hopped in the car and they drove off."

August 17 

Laundrie flew to Tampa, Florida, from Salt Lake City on August 17, according to Laundrie family attorney Steven Bertolino. Laundrie "flew home to obtain some items and empty and close the storage unit to save money as they contemplated extending the road trip". 

August 23

Laundrie returned to Salt Lake City to re-join Petito, the attorney said, adding, "To my knowledge Brian and Gabby paid for the flights as they were sharing expenses. 

August 27

On August 27, a Louisiana couple vacationing in Jackson, Wyoming, said they saw Petito and Laundrie involved in a "commotion" as they were leaving The Merry Piglets Tex-Mex restaurant. Nina Angelo, who was at the restaurant with her boyfriend, said Petito was in tears and Laundrie was visibly angry, going in and out of the restaurant several times and showing anger toward the staff around the hostess stand. A restaurant manager told CNN she saw "an incident" at the restaurant but declined to give her name or describe what happened, and said the restaurant did not have surveillance video of the incident. 

Last week of August 

Petito's family told police they were last in contact with her during the last week of August. Before that last communication, Petito is believed to have been in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, police say. In a news conference in September, Petito family attorney Richard Stafford says the family's last communication with Petito was August 30, but they do not believe the message they received was from her. Stafford shares a timeline of events on September 17, as the family knows it:

On August 24, Petito FaceTimes with her mother and tells her she is leaving Utah and heading to the Teton range in Wyoming.

On August 25, there are multiple texts between Petito and her mother. The young woman's family believes she is in the Tetons on this date.

On August 27, there were more texts between Petito and her mother, during which her family believes she remains in the Tetons.

On August 30, her family receives their last text from Petito. They doubt she wrote that text. According to Stafford, the message read, "No service in Yosemite."

Also in September, a woman publicly claimed she and her boyfriend gave Laundrie a ride on August 29 in Wyoming -- and Laundrie claimed he'd been camping by himself for multiple days while Petito was at their van working on social media posts. In a series of videos posted on TikTok, Miranda Baker said she and her boyfriend picked up Laundrie that evening while he was hitchhiking in Colter Bay, Wyoming. Laundrie told them he had been camping at a site outside the Grand Teton National Park, near the Snake River, she said. Once Laundrie found out Baker and her boyfriend were going to Jackson Hole instead of Jackson, he got agitated, asked that the vehicle stop, and got out near the Jackson Dam, according to Baker. Baker said she spoke to law enforcement about the interaction. North Port police confirmed Baker spoke with the department before posting the videos on TikTok. "Her account is plausible, it appears," North Port police spokesperson Josh Taylor said. Additionally, Norma Jean Jalovec, a seasonal Wyoming resident, told CNN she picked up Laundrie not far from Jackson Lake Dam on August 29 and gave him a ride to the Spread Creek dispersed camping area, where Petito's remains were later found. According to Jalovec, Laundrie told her he and his fiancée had a travel blog, she was in their van at the camping area working on the blog, and he had been hiking along the Snake River embankment for a few days. Jalovec said she later provided the FBI with that information. Jalovec said when they arrived at Spread Creek, she dropped Laundrie off before the gate at the entrance of the camping area. She said she offered once or twice to take him farther, but he was insistent that he be dropped off at the entrance. Laundrie then offered her gas money, but she declined, she said. Jalovec said she picked him up around 6:15 p.m., which was just a few minutes after Baker had said Laundrie had departed her vehicle.

September 1

Laundrie returns to the couple's North Port home, where his parents also live, on September 1.  According to an affidavit attached to a search warrant request, a license plate reader shows the vehicle exited Interstate 75 into North Port at 10:26 a.m. ET. The white vehicle Petito and Laundrie had been traveling in was later recovered by police at the home. It was processed and "there was some material in there" authorities will be going through, Taylor, the police spokesperson, says at a news briefing.

September 6

The Laundrie family goes to a campground about 75 miles away from their home in early September, according to county officials. Roberta Laundrie, Brian Laundrie's mother, was checked in at a waterfront site at the Fort De Soto Campground from September 6 through September 8, according to a Pinellas County Parks campground check-in report. The Laundries were at the campground from September 6 to September 7 and left altogether.

September 11

After not being able to get in touch with her, Petito's family -- who lives in New York -- reports her missing to police in Suffolk County, New York. North Port authorities go to Laundrie's home that night and ask to speak to him and his family.

September 16

In a letter read by the Petito family attorney at a news briefing held by police, the missing woman's family begs for Laundrie's family to help in the investigation. "Please, if you or your family have any decency left, please, tell us where Gabby is located," Stafford says. "Tell us if we are even looking in the right place. All we want is for Gabby to come home. Please help us make that happen." Petito's family reached out to Laundrie's family earlier in the month for information on Petito's whereabouts, but his family refused to answer. “We haven't been able to sleep or eat, and our lives are falling apart," the Petito family's letter adds.

September 17

After several days of both Petito's family and police pleading with Laundrie's family to cooperate in the investigation, Laundrie's family requests the police come to their home, where they share they haven't seen Brian since September 14, according to Taylor, the police spokesperson. "We've been trying all week to talk to his family, to talk to Brian, and now they've called us here on Friday, we've gone to the home, and they're saying now they have not seen their son, It is another twist in this story." Bertolino, the Laundrie family attorney, says "the whereabouts of Brian Laundrie are currently unknown. The FBI is currently at the Laundrie residence removing property to assist in locating Brian. As of now the FBI is now looking for both Gabby and Brian." Local and federal authorities kick off a search for the 23-year-old man.

September 18

North Port police say authorities are conducting a search for Laundrie at the Carlton Reserve, a nature area with more than 80 miles of hiking trails in Venice, Florida. Roughly 50 law enforcement officers from five local agencies and the FBI are searching for Laundrie, Taylor, the police spokesperson, says at a news conference, adding Laundrie has an "enormous amount of pressure" on him to provide answers to what's going on. Meanwhile, the FBI announces the agency and its partners are also conducting ground surveys in Grand Teton National Park relevant to Petito's disappearance. The national park is where Petito is believed to have been before her last communication with her family.

September 19

Human remains discovered in Teton County, Wyoming, are "consistent with the description of" Petito, FBI officials say in a news conference." Full forensic identification has not been completed to confirm 100% that we found Gabby, but her family has been notified of this discovery," Charles Jones, FBI Denver's supervisory senior resident agent in Wyoming, says.

The parents of Brian Laundrie are questioned at their home by the FBI. Christopher and Roberta Laundrie are escorted from their home and return after federal agents executed a search warrant, according to Taylor, the North Port police spokesperson. Authorities search the home for hours. Police say they have exhausted search avenues at the nature reserve and the search area has shifted.

September 21

The Teton County coroner confirms the human remains found Sunday in the Bridger-Teton National Forest were those of Petito. "The cause of death remains pending final autopsy results," the FBI says.

September 23

While authorities continue their search for Laundrie at the Carlton Reserve, the FBI announces the US District Court of Wyoming issued a federal arrest warrant for him. The warrant was issued pursuant to a federal grand jury indictment for the "use of unauthorized devices" related to Laundrie's activities after Petito's death, the FBI says." While this warrant allows law enforcement to arrest Mr. Laundrie, the FBI and our partners across the country continue to investigate the facts and circumstances of Ms. Petito's homicide," Special Agent in Charge Michael Schneider says in a statement. "We urge individuals with knowledge of Mr. Laundrie's role in this matter or his current whereabouts to contact the FBI." Laundrie is suspected of using a debit card and PIN for accounts that do not belong to him for charges of more than $1,000 sometime between August 30 and September 1, according to the indictment.

A funeral is held for Petito in Holbrook, New York, and her family launch a charity to help parents find missing children

Manhunt for Laundrie in the Carlton Reserve is scaled back after a 10 day search doesn't find him. Information released that Laundrie and his parents stayed at Fort De Soto Park from September 1-3 and September 6-8 - and that on the latter visit only the parents left

Documents reveal Laundrie's mom cancelled a reservation for the Fort De Soto Park campsite for two from September 1 to 3 and booked for three from September 6 to 8; FBI seizes surveillance footage from site; FBI investigates lead Laundrie bought a burner phone on September 14.

Bodycam footage from a second officer at the August 12 incident is released showing a distressed Petito admitting Laundrie hit her; FBI agents collect more evidence from the Laundrie home

A hiker along the Appalachian Trail claims to have seen Laundrie near the border of Tennessee and North Carolina
