There were two Cadillacs that Cunningham took to the 24 Hours in 1950. One was a stock Series 61 coupe that the astounded French dubbed Petit Pataud, which roughly translates to "the Clumsy One." The other car pictured here started out as a bare Series 61 chassis, but was clothed in a riveted aluminum roadster body partially designed by Grumman Aircraft on Long Island, which immediately got it nicknamed Le Monstre. It wasn't exactly a perfect outing. Cunningham was paired with Long Island driver Phil Walters, known during his stellar Midget racing career as Ted Tappett, in Le Monstre, but Cunningham stuffed it into a sandbank on the second lap.
