Brina + Thrynn 21

21. Personally, do you think they are a good couple?

Hoo, that is a question, isn’t it?

Ultimately, they have the potential to be a healthy, functional relationship. Brina is very supportive and empathetic to Thrynn’s past and present, and genuinely fit into his lifestyle shockingly comfortably. Meanwhile, Thrynn is a clear, no-nonsense communicator who holds Brina accountable, while having a lot of faith in her in ways she doesn’t have faith in herself. (He doesn’t believe she’s in any real danger of Sanguine, for example. And, if she'd stayed in Riften rather than left him to go with her brother, he probably would’ve been right.)

But their personal lives (family, factions, religious affiliations/aversions) make compatibility in a long-term deal... if not impossible, certainly improbable without some serious changes to how Brina prioritizes her life outside her brother and the brotherhood.

The more I write Brina and Cicero together the more it solidifies Brina’s theme being platonic soul mates.

Like, that’s a big inspiration for me, the concept of soul mates who aren’t in any way romantic or sexually intimate. Just another person who genuinely makes your life the fullest possible experience, a person with whom you share a bond that plays into your destiny.

And that was a big inspiration for Brina and Zeno. That they are destiny-bound and they both know it, and they shape the course of each other’s lives. It’s consuming and it defines them.

Anyway, the longer Brina and Cicero know each other, the deeper their friendship gets, the clearer it is that they have the same thing. And it makes me so happy. They’re soul mates; completely not sexual or romantic, but undeniably intimate in a completely different way. And, arguably, they’re a far better team than Brina and Zeno, who will probably be the death of each other one way or another.

I just. Love the idea of soul mates who aren’t just romantic relationships. Soul mates who are best friends. Soul mates who are family. Soul mates who are enemies, i don’t know. And I wish it were a more common trope, non-romantic soul mates.

(Also, it kinda makes me sad for Thrynn because he will literally never be to Brina what Zeno or Cicero are to her, and I haven’t sorted out yet if he’s upset about that or accepts that it’s probably better for him this way. I’m thinking the latter\.)

A brief mention of off-screen events in my current chapter of Spirit of Skyrim has gotten me wanting to write Brina, Zeno, and Sanguine misadventures, but I have literally no idea what I’d write or where to start.

If anyone sees a good prompt meme for it, or wants to give me a prompt to get me going, I’d be 1000% down.

Ah I'm really happy you like it!! I wasn't sure if it was rude commissioning someone else's OCs, but I didn't think you'd mind and I didn't want to ruin the surprise :) I've actually been wanting to get it commissioned for a while, and since I'm rereading the series (again...) it was on my mind more. Plus since the holidays are coming up, I thought it could be a good gift, both for you and me! I wish you all the best and hope you're doing well! :)
