Brisom - Hagkan
A music video sequel to Balewala
“Naniniwalang tayo
Kahit sino pang hadlang
Di na dapat pang matakot
Ako man ang masaktan
Alam kong magiging tayo
Papangako kong,
hindi ka sasaktan
Ikaw ay hahagkan.”

OPM Thursday Presents: Brisom
By Bell Delco
"Is it pronounced bree-som?"
"No, it's bray-som."
Wondering why they’re called Brisom? Brian Sombrero wrote a collection of songs about his travels; a personal recording project made just because he wanted to. The front man was from a band called “Menaya” who’s considered to have made an album (The Worst News) local underground music purists dub as “one of the best albums you have never heard”. So when his new materials were liked so much, he was prompted to form a group.
Brisom was formed in 2013 with Brian on vocals and guitar, Terence Teves on guitars, Timothy Abbott on synth, beats, and programming, Jason Rondero on bass, Jeffrey Castro on drums, and MJ Dantes on synth and percussion. The band has since then played in gigs and festivals with their 80s inspired indie-electro-pop music. They have released an EP album in 2014 called “Perspectives” and a full-length album in 2016 called “Limerence”. They also have recently released an MV for their single, “Siglon”, starring Andi Eigenmann.
But my favorite is their music video for the song “Balewala”, released in 2017— a genius piece of work! The MV is very much inspired by Black Mirror’s San Junipero episode wherein two girls who are polar opposites meet at a bar. The song is about being in doubt of revealing your feelings with someone—contrasting to the music video where the characters pretty much showcased being fearless and being able to convey their affection for each other. The clarity of the lyrics, too, is impeccable and the melody, gosh, you’d have eargasm within 10 seconds of the intro. #Pride
So why don’t give Brisom a listen? Believe me when I tell you that their lyrics will hit you in the feels, like this one:
May tapang bang ihayag ang gusto Kahit balewala muna Makikinig ba sa tinig ng puso o balewala, mababalewala?
Patutunayan ang damdaming ito oh mahirapan man bukas Masugatan masaktan mabigo Kakayanin ang lahat
Ikaw palagi laman ng isip Ngunit di mo alam Walang masisi kundi sarili Pagkat di mo alam
Top 5 recommended songs:
1. Balewala
2. Siglon
3. Pride
4. Muted In Color
5. Bigkas
