AN: Finally got to writing another thing. Its been an interesting week.

She was surely dying. It had all been a trap. They knew she was coming and they rigged the building. She only noticed when the door locked behind her; the click seemed to echo through the silence that followed. The silence telling her what happened here.

Now, she lay in the rubble, part of the roofing crushing her right side. Everything was spinning. Or was it just the tears clouding her eyes? She was breathing quickly. Far too quickly, yet not fast enough to fill her lungs.

Her target stood above her. Or, moreso, on top of her. Their voice betrayed their grin, "Got you."

They leaned into the rubble. Iris choked as they felt a rib break under the preasure. The crack echoed through her soul, a sound she knew would haunt her later.

A familiar voice reached her, "Step away or I shoot." Rajdev stepped into view, rifle pointed at their chest.

They stepped back, releasing some of the pressure. Iris gasped for air, hands shaking as she attempted to push off the debris.

He glanced down to her with potent worry before focusing back on his target, "Thank you."

The gunshot echoed across the now flattened building. The pair of them were there to kill them after all. But it didn't matter now.

Raj knelt beside her and began to lift the debris. He was strong when he needed to be.

Why could she still not breathe? Why-

Raj's voice was a distant sound, as if from a memory, "Fuck."

I was wondering what happens when a person recovering from rib fractures sneezes or coughs or suddenly has a violent coughing fit?

Hey! This is such a great condition to put your whumpee in!

Well first, it is not easy to deal with a broken rib and a cold! So you have to imagine a whumpee, who is already very debilitated and tired, and as soon as they sneeze or cough suddenly feel a very strong pain in the chest, like a sharp stabbing pang.

There will be two probable consequences of this great pain: first our whumpee has difficulty breathing: heavy breaths, they won't even be able to talk because of the pain, so they would only grunt, and moan in pain… You can have all of that!

Plus, the rib would move because of the cough and this will delay healing, forcing whumpee in bed for far longer they actually planned. They will grow frustrated, sad, always depending on somebody else... not at all an ideal situation.

Then there can also happen some major serious problems, such as pneumonia, that will inevitably bring high fever, worse coughs and more fatigue; but also pneumothorax (one of my personal favorites!), aka a collapsed lung, that occurs when the broken rib punctures the lung, bringing air into the space between the lung and chest wall. Pneumothorax is really dangerous, the whumpee would be barely able to breathe, debilitating even further and with fewer chances to survive if this isn't treated quickly.

YES!!! this is something ive really been wanting to write into a fic because I love the idea of an already chronic issue being made worse by something external...Akutagawa being so fragile because he can't heal himself like Atsushi can and he doesn't stand a chance against brute force most of the time (v. Atsushi on the ship lol) so cracking a rib can happen relatively easily in a physical fight. I think adrenaline saves him long enough to get to safety or win the fight, but afterwards he can hardly breathe or take in any air, his hand runs over his ribs and one or two of them are definitely very broken. he's doubled over from the pain and very much about to pass out because he can't really breathe and his lungs are already shit !!! he will absolutely pass out before whoever is with him even realizes he's injured. I like to imagine Tachihara is stuck with him in this situation and he is lowkey freaking out a little

Update:

My dumbass broke a rib

Because I wore a binder, that was too small, too tight, for too long.

Woke up this morning in EXCRUCIATING pain, now it just hurts to laugh and sometimes breathe-

I'm gonna have my sister in law pop it back in for me at some point this week-

Anyways, that's my dumbass moment of the week-
