originally, revali actually wasn’t going to be strong enough to board ruta with link. when he approached ruta, the malice spread so he had to mope in zora domain until link brought a passed out mipha back. i think this was supposed to make revali jealous? but then i changed it cuz 1) mipha and revali became best friends and 2) why would he be jealous? he knew mipha and zelda were a thing

it used to be revali’s pov when he transformed and had to just watch as his body didn’t listen. but yeah i decided to change that cuz the new champions watching the old champions transform was way too “good” to pass up. plus i had written riju’s pov before i had much of a plan so eh

the yiga attacked revali and link, not a hoard of moblins. but the scene was too short so i had to change it. i did like the small detail of revali noticing link buying bananas one second and the next he’s getting beat up

the line “we don’t want to take roasted shark back to your father if you come to death mountain” when mipha tried to go with link (and used to be revali) to save daruk

link actually learned how to speak and read the zora language from mipha! except i didn’t include that cuz i guess i didn’t want to deal with that much worldbuilding at the time

so this was gonna be a zelpha fic but revalink stole my heart and the show so i had to switch everything up

behind the scenes

this fanfic was a way to cope with covid-19. i was at a low point in my depression but i was hyperfixated on BOTW so i thought, why not try writing again? that’s when i saw @starstruck-sheikah concept art for a malice infected mipha and well. it spiraled from there

i hadn’t written anything this long in five (ish) years before this fic. you can tell when i started to improve. i’m proud of myself for finishing it

i have small epilogue oneshots still planned for this but my writing motivation has been coming in and out, so i’ve been focusing more on let’s go loftwings for now (sorry not sorry /lh ahdkdjdk)
