With his confidence boosted by many compliments from his guests, Atlas thought he might enter his pancakes into the local food contest they ran some Saturdays on the boardwalk. The ingredients he used were more than fresh: he’d milked the goats that morning and plucked a few eggs from his chicken coop to cook with. The dish was still steaming when he arrived at the boardwalk and, as he watched a woman plop down a plate of uninspired looking sandwiches, he had faith that it’d be an easy win.

What Atlas did not know is that Rosalie Brookland had also been brushing up on her own cooking skills, and too, had set a personal record by being awake before noon on that particular Saturday. She brought some sort of killer bacon wrapped fish dish (???) and took home first prize.

Not pictured: Atlas’ immediate descent into aspiration failure. Thanks Rosalie. Also, props to the balls on lunch meat sandwiches lady, who is actually Virginia’s former lawyer roommate (who probably should be an elder now, and I guess retired to Evergreen Landing?).
